Some additional commentary on the matter:

http://www.themotorreport.com.au/55128/ ... ll-details

Some highlights:
Schumacher's manager Sabine Kehm revealed that they let a summer option on his current Mercedes contract lapse.

Schumacher "would have been able to sign (for 2013) if he had wanted to earlier in the summer", she told the BBC.

Now, Sauber appears the seven-time world champion's only real option to keep racing.

"It's true I was at Sauber," said Kehm, responding to reports she met recently with Peter Sauber and Monisha Kaltenborn.

"I have known them for years. But that doesn't mean anything more than I'm regularly there."
Schumacher's manager Sabine Kehm was spotted in conversation with Sauber chiefs Peter Sauber and Monisha Kaltenborn recently.

"I don't want to give him (Schumacher) advice, as I sure he will consider his future carefully and calmly. We will see what he decides," said Niki Lauda.

The fact Lauda is not simply wishing Schumacher well for his retirement is significant, as the Austrian legend is set to join Mercedes as non-executive chairman.

"I don't know the details," the triple world champion told SID news agency, "but generally I don't think he is too old for formula one.

"His comeback was surely not as good as he imagined, but in those three years he never had a really fast and reliable car," added Lauda.
I'm note sure how reliable these are though.

I really hope he stays for a few years longer, i want him to win a race and Sauber given the performance they have show this year could hopefully do that next year. I'll miss him if he goes

Lotus?
And take who's seat? There's no space for him there.
His only chances are Sauber, or Ferrari, but Ferrari is a very big, huge, massive stretch...

On a side note. I'd tell Luca that I'd drive for free... He does not need the money

Lotus didn't confirm Grosjean ..... there is 2 big teams for him (Ferrari and Lotus) and 2-3 low teams (sauber, FI and Williams) But the only realistic option is Sauber although I think he will retire :?

I think that although Grojean is doing a few stupid things like crashing every other corner, he is very quick and has lots of potential, and is in his mid 20s, so he will keep driving. He's also cheaper than Michael.

Alonso -Schumacher that must be the ultimate pairing for 2013...and certainly a bigger story than Hamilton at MGP...
Mediavise a total disaster for Daimler.
Even Merc didn't see that coming if that's true  Does that mean Ferrari will have the strongest driver line-up for 2013?
For sure!! even with 44 years the line up would be awesome. And in my opinion it would the best vengance for Michael, imagine the old man beating the Mercedes car driving a Ferrari, hahahaha, too good to be real!

it might sound odd, yet logical and would be a wise decision - money is nothing to msc

About the Ferrari-Schumi deal there are two problems:

1. Michael dont want to take Massa´s place.

2. The relation between Luca and Michael, I think its a matter of ego. If one of them call the other it can happen, but hell, these guys are not the most humble persons in the world. :?

why do people keep saying that? or the lower teams would rather go with someone who brings money?

dieter zetsche once said schumacher brings 20million + in sponsors which i bet is alot more than most the other drivers on the grid

its probably
80% retirement
20% sauber anyway

its a pitty mclaren took perez i bet mercedes could have got him in there but i reckon they would prefer he didnt race for another team

Re: Future of Schumacher

I am wondering if there is perhaps a different plan....

Consider that Peter Sauber only came out of retirement to save his team after it was unceremoniously dropped by BMW. SO what if Schumacher plans to race for Sauber with a view to buy the team. He would likely bring in VAG as an engine supplier. He is a strong enough brand to attract the right sponsors and get the backing to secure the teams future...
He won't be inheriting the pig sty Prost did when he agreed to take over Ligier....

Just like Schumi's comeback, you heard it hear first
