gearbox trouble was always the no1 problem in racing methinks.Only in recent years with fully automated shifts this has reduced big time.

Easiest way to stop penalizing drivers and basing the championship on driver DNF's rather than basing the drivers on their best days is to go back to the type of points system of pre-1991 where only the top 11(of 16) scores for drivers counted towards the WDC.

Prost and his buddy Balastre knew they could not beat Senna on pure speed so they changed the points system to favor "consistancy" by counting all the points for every race.

Going back to a system that benefits consistent WINNING rather than a system that benefits consistent points racing is something all F1 fans should be screaming for at the top of our lungs.
Winning is the most important. Everything is consequence of that. Being second is to be the first of the ones who lose.-Ayrton Senna

I think it was an NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle rider that won the championship a few years ago without winning a single race. I was appalled that they would allow someone that didn't beat a single competitor to be a champion. Points consistency is okay in most repects, but a win should have easily 15-20 points more awarded than second place. 7 points is not enough, it should be 15-20. Make a win a win.
