He made a bold statement this weekend that he'll win the championship, you don't say that if you don't believe your car will be able to match Red Bull.
Last year (or 2 years ago?) he said something about X podiums will give me the championship. And in fact his prediction was right. (not that he won, but the podiums, and it wasn't an unrealistic prediction)
That's called playing mind games. He's done it all the time.

Mind games are for losers.
"There is a credit card with the Ferrari logo, issued by Santander, which gives the scuderia a % of purchases made with the card...

I would guess that such a serious amount of money would allow them to ignore the constant complains of a car that was nowhere near as bad as their #1 driver tried to sell throughout the season.

Heck, a car on which Massa finishes in the podium or has to lift so that his teammate finishes ahead (As we saw often in the final races of the year) is, by no means, a "bad" car."

Which is not the case this year, certainly not from Alonso... He has been the best of the lot by quite some margin this year. The RedBull is just such a good car, its scary.

Yes, but in the context of "I am 100% confident I WILL (not can) win this title" - talk is indeed cheap.

If he were to say "I will push 100% to the last corner of the season" then he has indeed displayed it. But to say he WILL win the title... well I'm sure you catch what I'm trying to say

An overly optimistic die hard fan may be who can't accept failure.. :D

That would be my reaction, obviously not to you but to that statement. :)

Yeah. He is usually is very honest about his targets and expectations, but to say something like this creates an impression that either they have found a magic bullet and the team is very sure of it or he is just being an over confident fool.

Fool is not a word I would normally associate with Alonso... but if he doesn't end up winning the 2012 WDC he will end up looking like a twat

Agreed. Neither would I, but such statements doesn't help his image either. A simple replacement of "WILL" with a "CAN" gives a whole lot more sense and meaning to his statement.

Sorry guys, usually I am critical of Alonso's comments but this time he didn't say he will win it100% sure
All he said was that he is 100% CONFIDENT that he will win it
Here is his actual quote

When asked by AUTOSPORT if he felt his title hopes were slipping from his grasp, Alonso said: "Not at all. I think it is more challenging for us now, but I remain 100 per cent confident that we will fight for this championship, and we will win it."

This time it is poor journalism

Yeah, as you said:
he is 100% CONFIDENT that he will win it
As Alonso said,
I remain 100 per cent confident that we will fight for this championship, and we will win it

Making such bold statement will actually put unnecessary pressure on himself and the team. Having said that, the Italians are known for their philosophical speech, so I am sure they will be able to orchestrate a soft landing if things doesnt turn out right.

My guess is that Luca will say that Ferrari has failed Alonso...and then someone will be sacked.

When asked if he shared Alonso's optimism, Domenicali said: "I am always optimistic. In life it doesn't change to be negative, it doesn't give you points.

"If you have the right approach with the guys, we can maximise what we have. This is what I have told my people.

"When you are fighting you have to be brave to use the things you have in the best way you can.

"There are also the others who are fighting, and we have to respect them. But their life will not be easy until the end."
