Adrian Newey drives RB6

Post

Awesome video. Really makes you wonder how many designers get to driver the cars that they design.

This was wonderful, also fascinating to notice the Exhaust fed Diffusor on the Leyton House. A concept pioneered by the Lotus - Lamborghini's at the time, Newey has obviously kept that trick as a favourite tool of his.

The answer is, I don't think many guys get to drive their car that they designed.

Red Bull are just a completely different kind of team, was ace to see this, though =]

You are correct, but interestingly...it has the RB6 Nose?
If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari.

The RB5 switched to the wide, RB6-like nose for certain tracks (high downforce areas, I believe).

They switched to the wide nose when Newey figured out how to bend it under load. ;)

It was used from Silverstone onward which coincided with the adaptation of a proper double diffuser onto the RB5. Possibly there to help balance the downforce created by front and rear.

Let's not forget that Newey actually is a racer himself though. He's not just a designer - he actually races cars as a hobby.

Why was Coulthard impressed about being flat out in woodcote?
Isn't it a simple right hander and very easily flat out?

And isn't Horner former Renault f3 champion ?

Horner used to race, yes - but I'm not familiar with his racing record.

I think it's a corner that, regardless - is scary, especially when you consider that Newey probably doesn't often drive an open-wheeler, and is 54!

I think it's actually the RB6. Look at the rear wing, and perhaps more importantly at 3:39 the huge double diffuser. The RB5 had only a small double diffuser. It doesn't have the F-Duct, however.
When Newey mentions the RB5 in the video it is in reference to the fact that it is the forebearer of the RB6.
