Definitely odd. But i´ve seen pictures of Hamilton with an award, did he win "most succesful black F1 driver" or similar :)

The article on Autosport (which btw you mis-linked, WB http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/104699) doesn't even say why - but it does say he beat Lewis Hamilton to the award, which must mean that this award is not solely based on on-track performance, because I think it's hard to argue that Button beat Lewis on track this year.
He beat 2008 Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton, four-time IndyCar champion and triple Indianapolis 500 winner Dario Franchitti, 2012 World Touring Car champion Rob Huff, Force India F1 driver Paul di Resta and 2012 DTM runner-up Gary Paffett to win the award.

Perhaps it´s his personality, "JB" this "JB" that. easy to like, a bit like DC but from England.

Sometimes Sam talks about him as if it´s his lost son or something :)
Martin is also there soaking up the coolness he never had growing up hehe ;)

Got to be some odd criteria to win that award. I can´t even think of a reason as to why he would get it before Hamilton.
that might sound fanboyish but i´m trying to be unbiased.

Sam who? Sam Michael?

Well on on-track performance, I don't think you'd give it to JB over Lewis.

Maybe - throwing a theory out there - it's about him having to overcome that midseason slump. Maybe they saw his being able to reverse out of that slump as a sign that he was a hardworking guy who was able to grind sweat and get himself out of a quandary. Just a possible.

Sam Michael yea,

Well you could make a case for Hamilton coming back from his worst ever year in F1 and being reincarnated.
Button getting lost in setup then mysteriously back again seems futile in comparison.

Especially when considering the extreme bad luck Hamilton had, let´s say 50 solid points in the bank.

Let's not get carried away with the exaggerations.

I spoke to an Autosport editor and they clarified the situation for me. Results are based on a reader vote, not via a panel discussion.

I´m not.

It´s definitely a NEW hamilton we have seen this year. Night and day, black and white, etc etc etc.
reincarnated to me would be an understatement really.

Robin Frijns should be rookie of the year, WSR 3.5 champ, but they picked a F2 runner-up, unbelievable. And Autosport don't like Lewis Hamilton I see.

Or, arguably, da Costa for rookie of the year. Certainly this year's pick of the junior bunch, anyway.

Vettel won the international driver award.

Button won British competition driver

Peter Sauber won the Bolster Award

So some predictions were wildly off the mark. Congratulations to Sebastian Vettel and Jenson Button. They both had a good season and deserved the Awards. I wish the runner ups Hamilton and Alonso more luck next season.
Wow, i was wrong, Autosport showing their ratings are absolutely worthless.

Alonso topped the race by race season ratings all year long and ended them on top.

But Vettel is driver of the year.....

Fair Enough.

Well in a way it's not worthless... in that it means Button is more of a people's champion than Lewis :P

Why?
Sorry, I have attached the wrong URL. I have fixed it now in the original post.
