Hungarian GP deal to 2021, Turkey possible

That is bad news. IMO F1 needs other European circuits a lot more than Hungary.
Vural Ak wrote:Mr Ecclestone is looking at a seven-year contract. He told me he wanted $26 million to put on the race [in the first year], but said he was willing to make a little sacrifice from that figure. I will put in $5 million out of my own pocket – I am not thinking in terms of making a lot of money here. The government will contribute $13.5 million. Therefore we will be stuck somewhere in the middle. We are hoping to have a positive decision from Mr Ecclestone next week. I have guaranteed him a minimum 50,000 spectators on race day, but I expect about 80,000. As well as Formula 1, we will use the circuit for a round of the DTM series, as in the past, and we are planning many other events, including a new Turkish series. We think motorsport events at Istanbul Park will bring tens of thousands of people.
I wish Mr Ak all the luck. He will need it. I'm a bit sceptical that publishing details of his dealings with Bernie will get him anywhere. Time will tell. I would love to see Istanbul Park back on the F1 calendar if only for one year. It is a great track right behind Spa in terms of elevation changes and it has already made history with its famous turn 8. It is also good news that the promotion is out of the hand of the lazy bugger Ecclestone. He has done nothing to promote the circuit in the years he had the responsibility. Same really as with promoting F1.

Istanbul park is a nice circuit but if memory serves, crowds have been sparse in recent years. With Bernie's huge fees, it's probably not tenable.

That said, Istanbul park is one of my favorite tracks. If only the whole thing could be airlifted to a place where it was more economically viable...

As for the Hungaroring... I would like it to stay. I would rather have spa every year, but dropping hungaroring won't make that happen...

Istanbul - Yes

Hungary - No

There are far more tracks that could eclipse Hungary (I would like to see a Mexico, Argentinian or Portuguese GP).
If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari.

In terms of tracks i think they are sublime both of them. Turkey for racing and Hungary for the Qualifying aspect.
Especially Hungary, it´s a go kart track on steroids.

I've always likened the Hungaroring to what would happen if Silverstone and Monaco procreated.

Love the hungaroring in terms of it being twisty, yet fast at the same time. The racing maybe not so much.

Turkeys turn 8 alone warrants its inclusion on the calendar imo

I wouldn't mind both on the calendar.

I've gone to 2 races here in Istanbul, the first and the last one. In 2005 the ticket prices were pretty stiff. Last time round in 2011 they were affordable though, closing up shop and all. General admittance was 35 euros IIRC. If they can offer the same again, I'll go. The problem with the crowd here have always been ticket prices. Football fanatics pay much steeper prices to watch the games, but they aren't interested in motorsports. However, the F1/motorsports enthusiasts will come if the prices aren't high. I can't see why we can't get 80-90k people at the track on race day. Let's hope the deal gets through first though...

It seems that Hungaroing is a quite successful track, its the only reason to explain how it remains every season, because apart from that ist boring as hell, yes when it rain its quite slippery, but apart from that the races in Hungary seem to be quite dull.

The other track is quite interesting and I would like to see races again there, but F1 doesnt receive so much attention in Turkey, and you should not forget that races are about getting profits, not loosing money every year. So its return is hard to understand if things dont change a lot in that country.
