When Do You Think The Last "Linear" Champion Was

Post

By this, I mean, when was the last time the best driver in the sport won the world title? (Linear is probably the wrong word but I like it)

Alot of this is subjective, but in my view 2004 when Schumacher won it may have been the last case of the best driver winning the title. After that you could argue Alonso in 2006, but even as a rabid alonso fan and Tifosi Ultra I cannot see how Alonso is or was ever better than Michael Schumacher was during his prime, in that season, the renault started off the 1st half faster, than the ferrari took over, without Suzuka, Michael would have been champion.

After that you could argue for Hamilton in 2008, personally I think Alonso is and was a better driver, but people can challenge.

I think Hamilton 2008 is possibly the limits of the argument, button in 2009 is a hell no and Vettel..........well, what more needs to be said

Disagree, I still had alonso down the the best driver in the sport, Hamilton did his usual bottle job down the championship straight and won it on the last corner against massa. Alonso in massa ferrari, championship over. My opinion.

Therefore im not sure 2008 is clear cut. I think james allen and Brundle were some of the others who named alonso ''pound for pound the best driver in the sport''in that as in, regardless of machinery.

And Kimi lucked into his 2007 WC....
We all know that Hamilton wrecked both on pace and on racecraft that year. He introduced "racing" really.

To me Alonso has been the best since 2010, before that Hamilton was the speed king. He´s the ancestor to Senna.

Agree to Disagree for me Alonso is the best all round driver from 2007 onwards.

Hamilton is the fastest driver over a single lap since 2007, and arguably in a race too, depending on tyres, its a 50/50 with him and Alonso imo for race pace.

But i think hamilton 2008 is the limit, everything after is garbage.

Vettel 2010 - 2012. He's won the last 3 championships.

But that's just my opinion.
It's equally as valid as Hamilton 2008, or Alonso 2006, or Raikkonen 2007.
Nobody knows - please stop asking the same thing in different ways. This is just the who 'deserved' it question rephrased.

The only one I probably agree with not being the best was Button 2009.

Mods? Lock it down?
