Nice.

but the true picture would be, if we can see the win/point scoring rate with respect to car performance....
which would be impossible or very hard
Michael won races in the car that was fastest.
Fernando won in the car that was... errrrr. Not se

So....

I may not be the best stat guru but i hope someone can draw the comparison

"best" driver - as the article title states - would be impossible to do without some level of judgment, "best guess" educated estimates, and of course some assumptions.

In terms of most successful - I tend to think of the term in a statistics context. In which case there was never any doubt that Schumacher will be on top. He's statistically F1's top man, let alone Ferrari's.

1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2003, 2005 and 2006 was the Ferrari the fastest...?

i recal it being quick enough,
I recall it being reliable
I recall a lot of good strategy and driving the wheels off the thing
But save for 2002 and 2004 It was not THE fastest car.

Fastest =/= best. There are examples of this in almost every year of F1.

Interesting chart though. Schumacher is the obvious one, besides that it's striking that all the other drivers besides RAI/ALO are 80's or before.

Yes you are right ! Fangio won the 1956 WC for the Scuderia Ferrari with a (Lancia)-Ferrari D50 which was in fact almost the former 1954/5 Lancia D50. The next Ferrari F-1 car for 1957 the Tipo 801 was also an offspring of the D50.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... zaM-KbXyoo#!

http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/car/243/Lancia-D50.html

In the early 50's Lancia had a bunch of very competitive GT and sportscar racers like the Lancia Aurelia B20GT, the Lancia D20, the Lancia D23 and the Lancia D24.

http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/car/2921 ... pyder.html

The Lancia D25 raced internationally only once in the TT 1954 in Dundrod. The D25 was left over after the cancellation of the Carrera Panamericana do Mexico in 1955.

http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lancia_D25

These racing cars were very successfull, but the spiraling costs also brought the company on the edge of bankruptcy. Gianni Lancia was forced to leave Lancia and to prevent the company from going bankrupt, the complete Grand Prix program (D50) was sold to Ferrari.

Alonso on 10? How many WDC's has he won for Ferrari? Did they only have 10 drivers up until now?
"There is a credit card with the Ferrari logo, issued by Santander, which gives the scuderia a % of purchases made with the card...

I would guess that such a serious amount of money would allow them to ignore the constant complains of a car that was nowhere near as bad as their #1 driver tried to sell throughout the season.

Heck, a car on which Massa finishes in the podium or has to lift so that his teammate finishes ahead (As we saw often in the final races of the year) is, by no means, a "bad" car."

Michael Schumacher is the most successful Ferrari driver, of course. No discussion, in my opinion.

1. Schumacher
2. Niki Lauda
3. Ascari

Cheers

The title is extremely misleading. Most successful is not best. Most successful is a stats-dominated moniker IMO.

The only practical and logical yardstick to measure success should mean rates of wins and title as it is practically impossible to compare drivers skills from difference generations.

Yes - but the article which you link to is talking about best drivers, not most successful drivers

Most succesful IS best. There's no more sane marker to use than that. There's no end to subjectivity so who knows what would be decided (I'd venture nothing since opinions would be all over the place) if they used another marker for "best".

I disagree. Most successful is quantitative, best is qualitative.

Yes, best would in fact inject some subjectivity. IMO that is the intention of the article linked in the opening post. Hence why they use certain words, such as the one they use in entry number 10:
in my opinion
And as the title of the site says,
Real fans, real opinions
I do not disagree that "best" would inject subjectivity to the argument. But I am saying that the piece linked to in the opening post is one built on subjective conclusion and not a piece on "most successful."
