In most cases with a motorbike, if you don't make the racing line then slowing down becomes a massive issue as braking that hard will either have the bike in a straight line or fold the front wheel anyway. One thing i learnt pretty quickly is that you cant lean and brake hard at the same time, the bike just naturally picks itself up and wants to go in a straight line no matter how hard you lean off the blasted thing
Braking might have been what killed him there. If he hadn't braked, he could have turned more and even though he would have been going faster, he would have had a less hard impact. (not meant as blame of course)

I would guess that such a serious amount of money would allow them to ignore the constant complains of a car that was nowhere near as bad as their #1 driver tried to sell throughout the season.
Heck, a car on which Massa finishes in the podium or has to lift so that his teammate finishes ahead (As we saw often in the final races of the year) is, by no means, a "bad" car."
