If Alonso Wanted To Drive For Mclaren Again?

Post

Do you think they would take him back?

Personally, right now, I think they would move heaven and earth to get him back, he is exactly the kind of driver they need right now.

From a logical point of view, McLaren would want him. But from a point of view that Ron Dennis still has a major way - I don't think they'd take him. After all, he was at pains to make it incredibly clear to the public that they dumped Hamilton - a personal protege of the team - by saying that "McLaren could have kept him if we wanted to." He then went on his ultimatum spree of "we want people who, when they get hurt, bleed McLaren."

Alonso, I don't think, will be a good match for the team again. He's a galvanizing character, drawing the team around him the way that Vettel has done to the red bull crew in recent years. I always get the impression that McLaren doesn't like these - they want drivers who just... Well, drive.

Their current lineup is quite low profile IMO - in past years they had senna, then hakkinen, then Raikkonen, then Hamilton. With Hamilton, Raikkonen and Alonso having fallen out of love with McLaren, I think Vettel could possibly be the top of the McLaren wish list at present moment. Whitmarsh of course revealed a few years ago that they made a play for Vettel to be Alonso's replacement in 07 (they were unsuccessful and got Heikki instead) and then announced in 2010 that they were interested in making a play for Vettel when his contract ran out.

Having said all this though; if you're faced with a car that, with terabytes worth of data, response curves etc plotted over testing, and feedback from two good drivers, is still an enigma to the engineers, no driver will help them understand it. Whether or not the driver can maintain top form and wrestle the performance out of the car for 20 straight races is a different issue.

No one leaves ferrari for other team. The real question is will Ferrari fired up Alonso...and NO this will never happen. Alonso will race with ferrari till 2018-2020.

I think all the team will move heaven and earth to recrute Alonso and Hamilton, because they are simply the best.
Mclaren lose them both...not something to be proud

Hey Listen, Im a tifosi, Alonso is going nowhere, Ferrari Idolise him, we all know that........

BUT

I think Mclaren's bad management and screwing of Alonso in 2007 has really come back to haunt them. I dont want to get into the 2007 thing in detail, but the bloke was hung out to dry by Mclaren, I think he even had to sign an agreement that he couldnt give his side of the story re:2007 as part of the deal regarding them letting him have a smooth exit out of Mclaren.

I honestly think Mclaren messed up big time when they lost Fern and it's starting to show, in this circumstances when you have a dumpster truck and you need a driver to drag it places it should not be in, that's Alonsos modus operandi.

Obviously as a Ferrari supporter I am grateful they messed it up, but I think surely now more than ever, they must have regrets, personally, I think they would get on their hands and knees to have him back.

Anyone would like to have a driver like Alonso in their team but the truth is he'll never leave Ferrari. Also, don't forget the past!

I wonder who McLaren fans would rather have right now as lead driver.

Button.....

Or Alonso.

Something tells me, inside they would welcome Fer back with open arms.

I love Button, mainly because I think he is a good guy, but after from 2010 Alonso has grown on me, and I officially fell in love with him last year after hating him for the longest time... those performances =D>

I know someone who has known Alonso professionally. "A good guy"? No. A great racer? Hell yes! He is more single minded than most and will throw tantrums to get his way. He's not a "good guy" as far as racing goes. What's he like off the circuit? No idea.

But he's definitely a very fine racing driver.

I think with certain people, you have to take the rough with the smooth, Alonso is a crybaby, everyone knows that, that's down to his immaturity, in some ways, I think he is quite child like....the difference is, Ferrari knew this from the get go and that was part of the deal that is why Alonso able to perform the way he does....Ferrari give him carte blanche to do whatever... if he delivers, and that agreement suits both parties.

I also have to say that his behavior in the public eye since he has been with us, especially in light of all the trucks we have been giving him to fight titles with....has been exemplary, so I do think he has learned alot from 07 and maybe has cleaned up his act a little.

However, the bottom line is this. McLaren would surely kill to have him back, especially in this situation, since 2007 they have had 1 world title which they robbed off Massa on the last corner, with Alonso as lead driver, they would have surely delivered multiple titles and most importantly, in this situation where the car looks off the pace, surely he is the one driver in the sport any team would choose in that situation.....

Instead they have...........Button.......as guy whose whole MO is ''get me the car 1000% to my liking and I can win you a race"........whereas Alonso works like this "Does it have 4 wheels???? Okay, leave it with me!".

McLaren messed up, and they messed up big time, not gloating.......but you know what they say.....what goes around...
