Red Bull now the pit stop kings.....by quite some margin.

Post

Mclaren held the record which they got at the German GP last year, 2.31 seconds to be precise.

Well it turns out Red Bull now has pretty much smashed it completely looking at their pit stop times from Malaysia.

2,13 - Vettel
2.13 - Webber
2,05 - Webber
2.21 - Webber
2.26 - Webber

Not far until we see sub-2 second stops which is crazy. All of Webber´s pit stops essentially broke the old record.

I''ve noticed they were very quick and consistent so far compared to last year. What changed?

I found it but it changes camera angle halfway through the stop which could be the reason i get the pit stop time to 1,8 rather then 2.05

Counted the frame the car stopped and started moving.

According to F1fanatic, this is the 2.05 one. Look at the gun guys chasing the wheels and the front jack removal.

RBR adopted the McLaren signal light system. Afaik they didn't use it in 2012. You can see it in Nandos video.

So why can Red Bull work the Mclaren pit stop better than Mclaren can:?:
Sometimes I worry about Macca, I think they have something that is just a bit of in that team, I feel it comes from management or structure.
They are good innovators, but they continuously fail at execution.

Interesting from Lotus, trying out a new rear-jack which raises the car a lot quicker.
"The crew came in for pit stop practice," Seaby revealed. "We had a good, productive day, starting with a briefing to analyse where improvements need to be made before completing about forty practice stops with a running show car.

"We tried out a new rear jack which proved to be an instant hit, raising the rear of the car a lot quicker. We're looking for tenths of a second, so any small details like that can make a big difference.

"Our best stops are down to about 2.4 seconds now and we're consistently hitting between 2.5 and 2.7 seconds which is not bad at all for a live stop.

"Performing push stops - where a few of the guys physically push the car into position - can flatter you a bit as it's easier to get the gun on the nut, so considering that this is as 'live' as you can get without being out on track I'm pleased with our progress."

Good. It really wasn't right with McLaren being the pit stop kings despite all the mess ups that have happened to them over the past year and a bit.

Now if only Mercedes would join the party. Their pit stops are still in the low 3's.

It must also be the drivers, partly. Räikkönen still loses about a second to the other front runners in his pit stops, as well as looking like he approaches the pit box quite cautiously.

Ferrri tried the lights first. '06 or'07.

08. Singapore. *cough* hint hint wink wink.

Except there was still a lollipop man manning the light. McLa e! Brought. It forward in 2012 - they had a connection to each wheel and jack somehow. See here:

I just noticed that McLaren's pit light "lollipop", on the back - has green/red lights indicating which stations are done & dusted. They don't activate all at once - they activate LED by LED. The one on top is for the rear jack, then each of the 4 tyres, then the one on the bottom is for the front jack. The one on the side is seemingly for the sidejack, in the case of a front wing change.

Does anyone know how they're getting activated? I don't think the "lollipop man" would have quick enough reactions to respond to that and turn those green. Any ideas?
