Racing Statistics Web App - help with project

Post

Hi guys,

I study Information Technology at Czech Technical University in Prague and I'm working on a project, which I need you to help me with. I want to create a web application which would show you all sorts of statistics about Formula 1, GP2, GP3, F3 and possibly other OW series. The idea is, you should be able for example to track career of your favourite driver through different series etc. What I need from you are ideas, what would you like an application like this to do, what statistics would you like to see. I created some questions, so please answer them if you can. Thank you

1. Have you ever searched for current race results on internet? If so, where?
2. Have you ever searched for results of past seasons? If so, where?
3. Have you ever searched for statistics, for example how many races have your favourite driver won? If so, where?
4. Would you like a web application, where you could find all these stats at one place?
5. If so, please write down what do you think an application like this should be able to do.
If you have any further ideas, please let me know. Thank you.

You could buy this for starters:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Great-Encyc ... 2847071237
It has everything up to lap charts of every race from 1950 to 2006

Have a look at these sites as well:

http://statsf1.com/
http://f1-facts.com/

Wikipedia is quite expansive:

Yes, those are good sources of info. However what I would like to create is an application, where you would be able to find actual race results as well as statistics. Also these sites are often focused specifically on F1. I'd like the users to be able to track their favourite driver career not only in F1 but also in previous series. Also the problem is often visualization of data. This is what I'd like to focus on as well - graphs, which would allow you comparison between drivers etc.

And that is why it's important to me to have some feedback on my ideas. I'd like to know if others would use an app like that and if so what they would like it to do. Feel free to make any suggestions

I think wiki is/are doing quite a good job with the visualisation of results. The exemplary Vettel wiki-page shows results for his previous career steps as well. Information about Vettel's career is not that hard to come by which makes it relatively easy to set something up like this.

What I would love, as I think you're trying to do, would be similar stats for every driver's career. Especially Jim Clark springs to my mind. I'd like to see his Lotus Cortina and F2 stats. (Even the BTCC doesn't have a lot of info... http://www.btcc.net/html/history_driver ... .php?id=53)

Hope you dig up lots of great stuff!
