McLaren MP4-28 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Yep, some form of Cap is missing. We'll see tomorrow if it's open or still closed.

It seems to me like the exhaust is further outboard than it has been. I can't find a good photo from China or Bahrain to compare though.
looks definitely like the promised new side pods (internals/packaging) with new and differently placed exhaustmanifolds and radiators etc.
Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.

A few hints from Button on what to expect - still managing expectations, but I sense that he's a bit more confident now than last week. I'd predicted that the changes would be hard to spot, but Button seems determined to prove me wrong...
"There is a lot that is different, you will be able to see [the changes to] the aerodynamics of the car and you will understand the difference in airflow of the car," said Button.

"It is still the same colour, but the edges have changed.

"There are some really cool-looking little bits on the car but I don't think it is going to be enough to fight right at the front.

"We will see an improvement and hopefully that will help us understand the airflow of the car a little bit better."
I'm always up for cool bits.

McLaren has run the upgraded car in a straightline test, with Button confirming that this did suggest correlation had improved.

I can live with "improved". I prefer "spot on", but I can deal with it.

The new FW looks a lot less boxy.
And Mclaren are back to the vertical sidepod fins.

Finally they stop making cosmetic changes. These seem to be more serious changes (At least visually!)

New FW with the end of the planes going downards is going a step towards what most other teams run on that side of the FW.

I guess it was been rapid prototyped, judging the white color.

The outer upper edges of the sidepods are actually the Mercedes shape with the outer edges raised.
