The damned Pirellis have not only ruined the racing but also the qualifying. No driver actually goes totally on the edge in qualy if he knows he can win from the second row if he conserves the right tyres in qualy. I loved the total balls out qualifying we used to have pre Pirelli.
Formula One's fundamental ethos is about success coming to those with the most ingenious engineering and best .............................. organization, not to those with the biggest budget. (Dave Richards)

I might agree that Red Bull's one lap pace is greater... but the race pace is lesser due to tyres mostly. They can't push as hard lap after lap, which is true for all the other teams too. But Red Bull certainly can't be put into the same category as Mercedes, not after Vettel dominated so absolutely in Bahrain.

barcelona 21 out of 22 races from the front row ? the 22nd from 3rd ?

not much excitement in that , is there !
to the optimist a glass is half full ; to the pessimist a glass is half empty ; to the F1 engineer the glass is twice as big as it needs to be

They're in the same category as that their race pace can not be deduced from their qualifying pace (in response to the topic). Also, as per the topic, it doesn't matter what affects the race pace, if the race pace is greatly affected by something (like we saw yesterday), you can not say qualifying is 80% of the race.

I have a question.

Why is qualifying not done with race fuel ?

I wouldn't mind qualifying with race fuel if weights were published before the race. That would clear up one reason for race pace differences between certain cars and while making it somewhat more predictable would also make it more understandable, which has its positives.

Heh, predictability is the last thing I want to see.
