McLaren MP4-28 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The strakes over the front of the sidepods look quite a bit longer than previously and than other teams. Is the McLaren possibly more sensitive to flow angle relative to the sidepods than others?

Haha, I've just seen the toast rack that Williams have for their sidepod strakes, so maybe McLaren aren't as sensitive as some

Well at least we know they got to use the FIA rig. :lol:

Is that exhaust tapering? I think that may be the first time we've seen the underside.

It also looks like McLaren have decided to take advantage of the rear wing endplate loophole. Two years later.

Similar to Barcelona, but I guess this is a higher DF version.

Yeah. They have a high AoA, which means the number of slits need to be increased too.

Looks fairly the same car as in Barcelona. No changes at all at the back, except the rear wing of course.

What do you think about the front wing? It's the new fron wing which couldn't be used in Spain (they brought it to late), or is the same old fron wing?

It's the new FW. Easy spot. Nothing has changed on it compared to Barcelona.

I don't think the endplate is black, just lots of shadow making it look so.

@turbof1

It's the new front wing which wasn't run in Barcelona, or nothing has changed since Barcelona (in Barcelona they didn'd run the new front wing)?

Yeah, but they verified that there were indeed two new front wings in Barcelona. One which we saw, with the white endplates; and another which was FedExed in on Saturday morning. They only ran the white one once with Perez and the second never left the garage.
