It was known about but didn't cause any fuss because it's normal.

In my opinion it is not normal - it was not one of the usual "filming" days, as it was not with demo tyres. Ferrari has been smart in staying on the right side of the edge of the rules (2011 car, probably De la Rosa driving).

Ferrari Test
No Ferrari F1 personnel
F150 (2011 car)
No data logged by team
Test session paid for my Pirelli
Neither Massa nor Alonso (Although im not 100% certain)

Mercedes Test
Mercedes F1 personnel
W04 (2013 car)
(?) No data logged by team
Test session paid for by Mercedes
Lewis and Nico driving

Distinct difference between Ferrari and Mercedes. Why Ferrari is getting dragged into this is unknown to me.

It depends by the point of view

Personnel: does not make any difference in these tests
Car: 2011 car is well known - it is a valid test rig for learning tires- slight difference to 2013
Data logged by team: who knows?
Test session paid by: I did not know about that, could be a difference
Driver: De la Rosa is ferrari sim driver, is 1st choice for this type of test. If merc had had atester like DLR, they would have probably used him. But as for other above points, we do not really know who was driving for merc or ferrari

So really in my view merc and ferrari secret tyre tests are very similar; but there are also many missing informations,so maybe my judgement is biased (e.g. maybe I overestimate relevance of 2011ish car for tyres understanding on 2013 car)

PS also notice the difference in official ferrari media coverage between the barcelona test and Kobayashi fiorano test (with a 2010 car painted in this year livery)

does anyone agree that driver's title chances looks slim again for this year ?. i know tht team hasn't been on the fairer side of luck but still we lack outright pace to redbull and mercedes and somehow redbull has not made any big mistakes yet.. 30 points difference with lotus and mercedes also in mix , looks too much for ferrari to overcome.

i hope i may get proven wrong at end of the year but practicality demands for this conclusion , as of now.

well, when you look at it and see that every time when team, driver or mechanical issue didn't ruin their race, Ferrari fought for victory and won 2 out of 3. I will not count Monaco cause Fernando and ferrari couldn't use their own strategy, they were forced to follow mercedes pace. so it doesn't look so bad.

From my point of view, albeit meaning absolutely zero for everyone else, is that Ferrari kept their current F1 team, Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro, away from the Pirelli test. The only thing that was Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro was the livery on the car. Everything was their Clienti Corse group which you and i could be part of if we first had an old F1 car and secondly, but most importantly, have bazillions of dollars/Euro/Pounds.

An easy test: (assuming everything other than the date of the test stays 100% the same)
Could Ferrari's Pirelli test be conducted AT THE SAME TIME as an F1 Championship race?
Could Mercede's Pirellia test be conducted AT THE SAME TIME as an F1 Championship race?

Ferrari - Yes
mercedes - No

Scuderia Ferrari have done a Dubstep song...in their spare time:

Also just found this...that doesn't sound like the v8 engine (despite the title for the video saying its a V8 engine bench test):

If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari.

I think that is the current engine we are hearing.
"...and there, very much in flames, is Jacques Laffite's Ligier. That's obviously a turbo blaze, and of course, Laffite will be able to see that conflagration in his mirrors... he is coolly parking the car somewhere safe." Murray Walker, San Marino 1985

If it's the current engine then it's severely rev limited. It's revving to somewhere around 14-15krpm, not 18k.

The tone of that sound is a bit more baritone to the current V8.
Out if interest, could the V8 be made to run on 6 cylinders to give that sound?

I like how Ferrari is thinking. They know that they are there in front with Red Bull, but still , they are telling that they need to close the gap.
Happy to see that they are trying very hard to improve qualyfing.
