The Ferrari design of using a box nose actually makes the nose structure better at absorbing energy so in effect you can use less carbon layers in the nose.

I love how the "old" wing in that comparison photo is only a week old. They're development pace is so fast this year that we literally just saw a new front wing pop up for one race, before it was further evolved for the next.

I wonder if it was a situation in which they knew X, Y, and Z would improve the front wing, but Y and Z required the crash test. They found that X was also an improvement all on its own, so they installed just X for Silverstone.
