mclaren have reverted to their launch spec sidepod or maybe a development of that. Gone is the big bump on, side off the engine cover, and a 3rd elenment has been added on top of the sidepod.

But I recon they are using the launch specs to see the correlation between the launch car and the latest edition of the car.

To see how much the updates have worked.

And then match them up with their windtunnel data.

Maybe the launch spec parts were thought for 2012 tires and would have worked with those ...

Those VG's on top of the sidepod look bolted on really badly

nope its not the launch spec,its reminiscent, but theyve kept the inner lower sidepod layout ala mercedes, and then they succeeded in removing the bumps on the side of the engine cover

Teams are generally running lots of sensor equipment and varying fuel loads etc etc
