BMW BT 52 Turbo F1 car revived.

BMW BT 52 Turbo F1 car revived.

Post

I didn't know where to post this...however seeing as this is the General Formula 1 section I thought I share this video I just saw of the BMW BT 52 Turbo being revived! I was quite chuffed to see it breathing back into life once more!

Anyways enjoy!

If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari.

Any reason why the intercooler is lot smaller than the radiator?

And what material is it that glows purple?

Different regulations. Engines werent limited in numbers you could run during a season. You could just add more boost to compensate for lower density of the air.

Plus fuel wasnt limited either. So om pretty sure engines was run rich to cool the engines with petrol.

And they still made a ton of power. So not much need in increasing the efficiency of the engines. You could just add more fuel and air.

They were, indeed.
So much that Brabham was famously producing visible smoke on the qualifying runs!

Great stuff!!! I loved to see Surer and Emmo get back into this tin foil soap box chassis and chase it around with manual gear change. Must have been exiting when they raced it, and bloody dangerous by the looks of it. Those guys had brass balls.

"Tin foil soap box chassis", perhaps you have your BT-designations confused WB?

If you look at the thing from a modern perspective it provides less protection then a soap box would on a comparable speed level.

Unless I'm very mistaken it was Emmerson Fittipaldi driving the thing up the hill in Goodwood this summer.

Nelson drove the Brabham at Goodwood.

Emerson was driving the Lotus 72 at Goodwood.

there appears to be so little negative camber up front that it could very well lean positive. i realise back then the suspension geometry wasnt bass ackwards like it is now, but even the renault behind it near the end of the video has SOME negative camber.
whats up with that? is that how this car was generally set up? or is it only in this one instance?
