Mercedes AMG F1 W04

I don't think we have to be disappointed: Merc were sut-up for a washed track-light rain as they said yesterday ("..we expect these conditions tomorrow for the race..")

They'll bring a lower low drag rear and front wings, RB were already using the Monza rear wing; plus, Merc complained about getting heat in tyres equally from fronts to rears, it's a sign of a good tyre wear and lack of downforce (caused by set up)?

I don´t know if it´s weight, tire temps or some other thing but both have problems keeping their positions on opening laps.

It had more downforce then the Red Bull yet on the first few laps it was something like a second off pace in S2.
Now we can conclude that Hamilton and Vettel are equally quick and have no problems squeezing out everything from cars so it does make you wonder what just is up with the car during the first few laps.

It´s supposed to be faster then the red bull in S2 all the time, every lap.

Edit: Interesting hearing from Brawn the same thing. Not sure why they struggle on the opening laps and get better towards the end of the race.

The only real change apart from balance from start to finish is fuel.... I wonder if they are simply not at a disadvantage to Renault engines who are said to be much more fuel efficient = less fuel to start with.
Yeah, I don't understand why they lacked the pace in the race, especially the first part. Even though they weren't set up for straight line speed, they couldn't keep up with the bulls in the 2nd sector, where the mercs were supposed to be stronger. Their qualifying pace in that 2nd sector wasn't carried forward in the race on heavy fuel. Do people think this is because they simply haven't got enough inherent downforce on the car as red bull? A bit worrying when even Lewis Hamilton can't even squeeze any more pace out of it.

Well, it was a consistent race, no tyre eating, this looks like the tyre problems have been solved at last. 3rd and 4th is a strong result. I wonder if they couldn't heat the tyres properly.

Apparently one of the factors to take into account for the mercs lack of pace was due to stricter limits imposed by pirelli on tyre pressures and camber. Brawn said they had to increase tyre pressures by more than they wanted to and the camber limits were lower than what they wanted to have. He said it was the same for everyone but for some reason, it had greater consequences on them.

Bit fed up of things like this affecting mercedes even more than the competition, they have some of the greatest engineers on earth but can't figure out ways to alleviate these problems.

No, these limits were just for Spa, if i'm not mistaken. Because of the track characteristics. Can anyone clarify this please?

Well, a few years back, RBR had a pretty ridiculus camber setup, and a protest by other teams got trough and so Pirelli (or was it FIA) limited camber to a safe degree.
In this case, however, I think Pirelli is just covering their asses and playing it safe because of the Silverstone incident.

Pirelli will decide max camber settings and max pressures before each race.

So something like Suzuka for example will probably be a bad track for Mercedes?

Wasn't it max camber angle and minimum tyre pressure?

Yes, you're right, my mistake. it will be max camber/min pressures.
