Mercedes AMG F1 W04

But maybe it isn't fully assembled yet.

And what's the appendix before the exhaust attack? Gas sensors? Can this cause a loss in performance? Turbulences the reason why

@lio007: The Exhaust Tip is missing on that Picture.

@diego: Thats a Helmholtz Chamber. I don't know the exact functionality of it but it has been largely discussed on this Forum in the Ferrari or RedBull Thread.

It collect some exhaust fumes and releases it when the driver goes off throttle, recovering a tiny bit of of throttle blowing.

Yes, the flap has a lot less AoA compared to the Spa spec as expected.

The end of the exhaust is obviously not yet attached in that pic.

That explains the smaller and fewer gills.

I think the bigger slotgap in the endplate edge is the maximize the concept behind it: reducing tyre squirt by letting turbulent air bleed to inside the endplate which maximizes diffuser and brake duct efficiency. The turbulent air hinder rear wing downforce production, but since Monza is less about downforce and way more about drag reduction, it looks like enlarging the slotgap is a good solution, atleast in theory.

(Have to thank WPTformula for the info about the slotgaps: http://thewptformula.wordpress.com/2013 ... endplates/)

This is rear wing like what Red bull have in Spa. Nice. I think Merc will be 1 or 2 in top speed

Not only is the new rear wing shallow it's is also much smaller in plan view too. Compare it to the McLaren wing and see how much farther back the leading edge is and the surface area.

Compared to w02 and w03, Merc did an excellent job on cooling, even with the coanda exhaust. we saw too many gills on w02 and burn marks on w03, but neither happened on w04. =D>

by the way, is it me or I see a new front wing ?

Increasing the aspect ratio helps with efficiency too.

Turbo f1 that is actually completely wrong. If you did a little research you'll realise that the Helmholtz chamber is there so teams can easily acoustically tune the exhaust for each circuit to maximise exhaust scavenging etc.
