Well, I did wonder what on Earth Ferrari and Raikkonen were playing at, going back to a situation that seemed to have broken down and been put behind them. However, I then read Ferrari's press release on it:

http://formula1.ferrari.com/news/domenicali

That makes it pretty startlingly clear, especially in Formula 1 terms where everything is smoke and mirrors. Raikkonen has been pushed for by James Allison and the message to Alonso is "This is what we're doing, this is what we feel we need to do to win and if you don't like it you know where the door is". Raikkonen is not going there to be a number 2 and as long as he gets a car he feels he can drive then things could be pretty interesting. He won't be getting the oversteering Ferrari of 2008, that much we can get from that statement. They actually seem to be backing him.

Is there any news on Maranello wind-tunnel? Or have I missed it's grand reopening?

Jarrod Murphy, head of the computer-aided design (CAD) in the field of CFD (computational fluid dynamics) in Enstone will also go to Ferrari after 17 years of loyal service. James Allison wanted him, as he pushed the recruitment of De Beer.

On scarbs' twitter I just saw a retweet about the possible transfer from Lotus to Ferrari of another aerodynamicist, CFD head Jarrod Murphy. We will see if it is true. Lotus is known for having a very good cfd facility and a good wt-cfd work method.

Sorry - did not see it was mentioned above.

CFD is one area where Lotus are ahead of pretty much everyone else - including Red Bull. They seem to be able to get stuff on their car that at first glance seems completely innocuous, but put it all together and they come up with a car that belies their budget.

Maybe Ferrari should just buy Lotus? :o I think all this will be too late for 2014 though.

You don't get the sponsors and money Lotus are seeking without first getting results. It's the chicken and egg.

It's not the end of the world. Lotus is an attractive location for most drivers on the grid and they still have the infrastructure built up over many years Ferrari are now trying to poach and will have to knuckle down and build. You don't get that overnight no matter how many people you offer big money to and employ. I would hazard a guess that the people going from Maranello to Enstone will like what they find better than the people going in the reverse direction.

I think Ferrari are interested in other working methods regarding CFD. What better way to do this than get a guy in who has a very good reputation in this area?
He will know exactly which tools he needs to get the job done, and it will be up to Ferrari to provide that.

Good acquisition with vast potential to push Ferrari forwards.

Applied to every single team up and down the grid. And of course, not a course of action that is endemic to Ferrari....
