Wasn't it a 1 year contract with an additional 1 year option?Joie de vivre wrote:rumors hulk replacing perez. could happen.

if not for webbers absence I doubt Ricciardo will be earth shattering....basically RedBull a 1 car team in top 4 and Ricciardo more of a solid points finisher .zeph wrote:I have the feeling that Webber's absence will hit RBR harder than may be apparent. It probably won't be like Hamilton leaving McLaren, but Webber has been with the team since day one and it is hard to gauge just how important he was to the team.
Then again, maybe RBR held on to him until they were confident Vettel can do it all.
Its hard to expect much from a driver that has lost his motivation. Perhaps that comes with age.marcush. wrote:if not for webbers absence I doubt Ricciardo will be earth shattering....basically RedBull a 1 car team in top 4 and Ricciardo more of a solid points finisher .zeph wrote:I have the feeling that Webber's absence will hit RBR harder than may be apparent. It probably won't be like Hamilton leaving McLaren, but Webber has been with the team since day one and it is hard to gauge just how important he was to the team.

I had expected them to hire a stronger driver than Webber ....
I'm not surprised by the Ricciardo signing. I don't think it is a good signing mind you though. It's probably Mateschitz's way of putting the Red Bull Driver program to the test. I suspect they're going to find out they spend a lot of money without any real guarantee of getting much of a return on the investment. They got lucky with getting Vettel, but drivers like him cannot be created no matter how many programs you create. You can recruit as much as you'd like, but until the drive is in Formula 1, there's no way to know whether they will pan out.marcush. wrote:if not for webbers absence I doubt Ricciardo will be earth shattering....basically RedBull a 1 car team in top 4 and Ricciardo more of a solid points finisher .zeph wrote:I have the feeling that Webber's absence will hit RBR harder than may be apparent. It probably won't be like Hamilton leaving McLaren, but Webber has been with the team since day one and it is hard to gauge just how important he was to the team.

Can you, or anyone for that matter, provide a single quote that indicates Mclaren are even interested in Hulkenberg? This, along with overreaction after Korea is the most bizarre thing that happened around F1 recently. Yes, it was a good race but there were many similar or even better performances (even this race) with not even close reactions. There were also better drivers after better races without contracts and half the F1 world weren't looking for seat for them. Snowball of hysteria.Joie de vivre wrote:rumors hulk replacing perez. could happen.

He is only managing expectations.munudeges wrote:The political situation at Red Bull I find quite funny, especially with Marko coming out with some public comments to take some of the pressure off Ricciardo. As if he kind of knows what's coming.
Like what?JimClarkFan wrote:He is only managing expectations.
I think RIC has every chance at being up the pointy end and very close to VET - we all saw what he did at the young drivers test a couple of years back, he was devastatingly fast and had no issues getting to grip with the RBR.munudeges wrote:Like what?JimClarkFan wrote:He is only managing expectations.
The fact is he's going to have to get in there and hit the ground running against the opposition. He's in a Red Bull. Marko has started talking about him not doing much until halfway through the season.
