We could ask the same about any open wheel racing series.
Maybe indycar is a bit more dangerous compared to the others racing series but it has always been a open wheel racing series (iirc). Surely there is a need for increased safety after all we have seen, but i think they won't make the change... for whatever reason. Open wheel car racing is dangerous but it has something special ( "something special" doesn't equal serious injuries)
F1 could face the same problem. F1 cars could easily get airborne for example at Monaco and then it could look like the incident with Dario.
Well i don't vote for "keep doing like you did even if guys are dying", but i think they should try another way than "closing" the wheels. The last race pointed pretty well out why the bodywork they have behind the rear wheels isn't enough to prevent such things.

how about Nascar Monster Truck series on ovals and Laguna Seca? now that would be spectacular.
about allowing LMP-type [prototype] cars mixed with open-wheelers is asking for death.
A open wheeler slamming into the rear of another open wheeler will result in crash structure, nose and tech
damage, but cars will absorb the energy with eachother. only when hitting wheel-to-wheel the risk of getting
airborn is greatly expanded, or when slamming full speedinto a wall.
when a protoype-style car slams into the back of another indy open wheeler, the sheer steepness of the nose will
airlift the back of the indy without any effort thus catapulting them into air with all the dangers.
apart from that, lmp cars have slightly reduced but still near similar risks when slamming into the walls.
so there is zero gain from LMP cars, apart from the fact its rediculous idea and not the least important:
are you forgetting indy is for AMERICAN crowd? It's a totally different crowd then the EU racing fans.
They would be digusted of the idea and think it would be stupid. They would lose their fanbase and since nobody here
would understand why it would be neccesary even less would the US fans.
And don't mix that with 'intelligence', because the motorsport concept in the US simply is different of the EU, it's simple
as that.
