What Would Be Your Dream Team?

Post

Just an interesting thing to discuss. you may choose any drivers past and present to fill in the following catergories:

Number 1 driver:
Number 2 driver:
Reserve driver (optional):
Team principal:
Strategist (optional):
Engineers/Designers (2 of these):
Engine (optional):

And then any other little nuggets you might like to include such as:

Livery colour:
Primary sponsor:
Team name:
Home track?:
Nationality:

You might want to think of things such as:

Will your drivers get on?
Do any members of your team speak different languages?
Would your sponsor provide enough money?

To get this started I'll put mine:

Number 1 driver: Michael Schumacher (not 2010-12 Schumacher)
Number 2 driver: Nico Rosberg (would never cause any trouble)
Reserve driver (optional): Jules Bianchi
Team principal: Ron Dennis (made Mclaren great)
Strategist (optional): Alfred Neubauer
Engineers/Designers (2 of these): Adrian Newey and Gordon Murray (one for his genius one for his innovation)
Engine (optional): 1986 BMW (1400+ BHP in quali)
Livery colour: Silver + red
Primary sponsor: Volkswagen (for the insane budget)
Team name: Porsche (because Volkswagen sounds ---)
Home track?: Original Hockenheim
Nationality: German :(

Thank you for reading, Looking forward to seeing yours below!

Too hard to choose, so not going to bother.

Expecting the usual fanfare to follow... well, it already has started

Continue though, would like to see what others pick who do have the capacity to choose.

If you're going to make underhanded stabs, might as well just tell people in the face and explain what your problem is. Otherwise, please refrain from trying to bring down yet another thread with backhanded comments.

Well here is the thing, I seen your name and predicted a few things about who you would pick based on your history here - and was correct.

There are others, whom I expect to see come in and I will be able to pick a few of the people on their teams as well.

When selecting the dream team, it would be very difficult to do it objectively... impossible I might argue. Everyone has their biases, their opinions, backed up predictably by who their favourite driver is.

I genuinely cannot pick a dream team because I cannot objectively look at the data and decide who is best. If I was looking to statistics alone, Fangio and Michael would probably have to be the first picks. But statistics don't tell the whole story, circumstance, luck, and other intangable, unmeasurable things come into play.

My gut would say Alonso and Senna might deserve the spots, because even their skill cannot make up for some of their bad luck, but then how do I justify that without having data to show my workings out if I can't quantify that. Maybe Michael was just lucky and got into the right teams at the right time, or maybe Michael knew how to build a team better than anyone else - again I cannot quantify that. There are too many unknowns.

It is almost impossible to standarise how you pick a team. Almost impossible to impartially judge.

What might be interesting is to see who is most often picked, that way you would have a consensus opinion. The efficient market hypothesis might work well here. That is to say, if we have enough people, picking their dream team, the biases included in one persons opinion will be drowned out by the crowd.

So on the one hand individual opinions don't interest me, but an opinion from many different people would be interesting.

(Some of) the most successful and best people in F1 today and who I consider one of the most promising upcoming talents.
God forbid... I'm sure glad you created all that drama for such completely unthinkable injustice.

You dared to ask.

I rarely get involved in arguments on here, I say my piece and leave it at that. Drama is something you court a lot more than me.

Not calling it drama doesn't mean you don't create it, mr "expecting the usual fanfare... oh wait, there is someone naming the most successful and acknowledged people of Formula One these days, how outrageous". It's just a cheap backhanded comment which you are unwilling to back up.

But no further drama. Just cheap backhanded comments on nothing.

Number 1 driver: Lewis Hamilton
Number 2 driver: Sebastian Vettel
Reserve driver (optional): Kevin Magnussen
Team principal: Ron Dennis
Strategist (optional): Whoever could be deemed the most responsible for RBR's...
Engineers/Designers (2 of these): Got to Newey and Prodromou doesn't it...
Engine (optional): Mercedes

And then any other little nuggets you might like to include such as:

Livery colour: Black
Primary sponsor: Hmmm can't think of anyone that would fit in with black
Team name: Burns Grand Prix
Home track?: Silverstone, given that Scotland's Knockhill track would be about 30 seconds in an F1 car  )

No you did not.
You make an underhanded stab without backing it up, and then shrug your shoulders as if you've done nothing wrong, to this moment failing to provide a single argument why the post you attack, is worthy of your label.

Number 1 driver: Fangio
Number 2 driver: Moss
Reserve driver (optional): Alonso/Hamilton/Vettel (don't mind which, they'd all keep the "old guys" honest)
Team principal: Ron Dennis
Strategist (optional): Ross Brawn
Engineers/Designers (2 of these): Chapman and Newey
Engine (optional): What engine rules are being applied? If V10 then go with Renault, if V8 then probably Ilmor/Mercedes, if V6 then Honda.

And then any other little nuggets you might like to include such as:

Livery colour: McLaren Papaya Orange
Primary sponsor: None, it's fantasy so let's go back to being sponsor-free
Team name: McFanna
Home track?: Silverstone
Nationality: British

It's a nice sentiment but I fear the majority will be modern drivers with the champions from the last 10 years figuring most highly. Lots of people on here with short memories or short F1 watching experience. I expect to see Vettel and Alonso figuring very highly for that reason.

It very much depends on the exact scenario, hence why I choose a modern team.
We know Senna was a genius, but to say he would have done as well in the Mercedes-Benz W196 as he would have in the Red Bull RB9, is educated guesswork at best.
Same goes for Fangio, Clark, Schumacher, Alonso, Vettel.

Regardless of the era, I would most certainly not put together a cross-era 'dream team'.
