Still, they are on course for second in the constructor's championship, I would have taken that at the start of the year. I think the recent claim Sauber is killing them with their traction through much better gearing from lower speeds is contributing here...maybe they could not use the gearing due to the sacrifices made to their traction potential?
As in former years ,Mercedes seems to struggle to find winwin solutions when solving issues with the car-they compromise in away s giving up absolute performance for tyre life the same happened last year and maybe also the years before.
interestingly other teams seem to be able to find solutions giving them tyre life without dropping qualy speed.I don´t want to come across too critical here -they improved in finding the sweet spot of their car dramatically.But frankly they got it right only twice last year ....
RedBull had one or two races were they did not get it right .

As said in the article it was found during the routine strip down post AD.
