I'm not too proud to say I cried when I watched this. I had tickets for seats on the finish line. If I had only gone.....

I remember that race well. The season had started with the horrible and confusing death of Dale Earnhardt and the entire NASCAR community was still in shock and mourning. For Harvick to pick up where Dale had left off and win at Atlanta was a catharsis for many racing fans, something that could not have neen scripted better in a movie, but instead played out in real life.
Of note were Dale's son, Jr, winning three huge races that year. Scored a trio of dramatic, emotional victories. First win came in July at Daytona, the first race there since his father's death in the Daytona 500 on Feb. 18. Next victory came at Dover in the series' first race back after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, and he punctuated that win with a victory lap carrying an American flag. Third win came in October at Talladega, the site of his father's final career victory a year earlier. These very emotional moments helped cement his popularity with many fans.
