technology & support between teams; idea

Post

Team sponsoring teams (fastest helping the slowest)
Had an idea (apologies if I’m not the 1st) about the gaps & costs between some teams, what if you take the top of the constructors list & have them sponsor the bottom of the list. With technology & some support. Bring up the rear so to say
For instance based on 2013 standings, RBR would get CAT,MER+MAR,FER+WIL,LOT+STR,MCL+SAU, Force India is red headed step-child this year.
Trickle down technology, more data (race & test) access across different chassis, would the help keep packs together, would it prevent long lasting leaps of tech. (should it, I want to catch the Finger guy)
Reward constructors points to sponsor teams based on sponsored team’s results. Would this lower the cost of some development, across two teams instead of one, understanding 2 teams may go different directions in dev. but reduce some cost over all
Would this solve the 3rd car request of some teams?
Every year the sponsor & sponsored would reflect the previous years constructors standings.
I understand there would have to be a limit on shared data, (sponsored team with competitor engine & tech,)
Would it help struggling teams, call it charity for the health of the sport.
thanks, be gentle

They already do that. Marussia has (had?) a technical tie in with Mclaren. Caterham use red bull's gearbox. Force India use Mclaren's gearbox, etc.

That aside, if there were any chance that they would agree to this, the top teams would not so vehemently oppose a cost cap.

Besides, there's other issues. Trickle down technology would work as well as trickle down economy. Which is to say, not very well. The rich get richer and the poor stay where they are. More test data doesn't close the gap, because then both teams have more test data, which doesn't change where they stand relative to each other, but the one who has more resources can do more with that data. If that makes sense.

The idea is to win - is it not? It is not about the taking part is it?

Being able to sell technology is a good idea - but the tech is so badly restricted that you have to spend for the small gains rather than invent something new for "free"

Double diffusers being the obvious one.

I think this idea can work if thought out.

For example, what if team would have to disclose all the telemetry after the weekend?
What if they also have to make all the documentation (at least CADs) on the updates they make during the season available?
It may level out playing field a bit and make overspending pointless but teams will still benefit from updates.
