Just wanted to see what everyone thought of it... Apologies for the appalling sketch I have drawn it up in sketch up but it looks even worse..http://www.freeimagehosting.net/ http://www.freeimagehosting.net/tltkz
No, it is not legal. If you cut anywhere parallel to the centerline of the car, the nose can only form one area. In your case it would be two.

I thought that might be the case but I wondered if the wing/flow conditioner could be considered the pylons hopefully avoiding that rule. (unless the pylons are included in that rule in which case my design is fundamentally flawed).

It's the same Picture they used back in 2010. So nothing new here.

The Front Wing is way to Tiny.

They're both better than some of the monstrosities that are possible...no expert on the rules so won't try to judge the legality of the first. The second is, I think, what the FiA was intending and looks great in my opinion.

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

that first one looks a lot like what caterham ct4's nose probably will look like.

the bottom one indeed looks good, better if you may, but i think the main problem in this case is,
because of the mandated central part of the actual 'front wing' [where the pylons must connect],
it wrecks havoc with the entire design. if you compare a 2007 wing to a 2014 wing, you see a clear
contrast in design phylosophy and possibilities, and I think because of the shape of the wing,
there will not be a 2007-spec nose, because that 07 nose was designed with a different wing in mind.
(not to mention a completely different set of rules).

As for me personally, i'm starting to like the caterham-esque nose solutions [double nosed], it's....
different. a bit weird, yet shows teams jumping around the rules trying to find some sort of ingenious solution.
beats the hell out of these phallic front ends, that's for sure.

would be so much more interesting if there were not such 'suffocating' rules in key design area's.
they want to lower the aerodynamic effects on f1 but with their set of rules, it only makes aero much more
complicated.

while also sending off 4 Hamilton players to make it more interesting"

I suppose that if the FIA was intending such a design they should have required that all the sections from the noise to the beginning of the chassis must be convex.
Since, as far as I know, they haven't do that the first solution may be a viable solution if it respects the minimum area.
Do you agree?

I don't think any team will come up with the by FIA intended nose.

Me neither.
The naivety of FIA is really amazing. They should have learned by now that the designers will look for any loopholes and don't give a sh*t for Looks when Performance can be gained otherwise.
Knowing that they have rear DF limited the cars for years now and going another drastic step this year it must have been clear that no one would go for a traditional low nose. I don't even think we will see an Ant eater à la MP4-22ff this year even though this could almost work OK but there are for sure better solutions for the 2014 regs out there.
And 100% for sure no BGP01 nose. That would simply be undrivable. Or you would have to run it w/o Front Wing.

I am not that sure. I think a team like Marussia could be tempted to just go with a simple design like the one above instead of using a lot of recourses calculating the strength of a tricky design which may not even pass the crash test. They don't have recourses like McLaren or others who can afford to miss the crash test. A team like Marussia would be set back a lot more. Of course this is just speculations.

Caterham used the atypical road. Being similar in terms of resources to Marussia, I believe they'll come up with something that doesn't quite fit what fia intended to. I believe they still have a technical partnership with mclaren, so quite possibly they got tech from them.
