Festival of Speed Soapbox

Post

I just wondered if there is anybody on here that visited the Festival of Speed back in the days of the soapbox cars and had any pictures of any of the cars that competed in the soapbox gravity race. I'm particularly interested in the fully enclosed cars but I would be interested in pictures of any of the soapbox cars.

Cheers

+1 I would be very interested by photos of the McLaren and Bentley soapbox, the Lotus also even if we can see photos on their site;

Hi,

Here's an article, from a couple of years back, about soapbox CFD (Ford's entry):

Ford EGGBox:

Popular Science, fairly recent (notice the "view photos" link):

Here are a couple of pics of Bentley's challenger (year?):

Lotus, thankfully, has decent info of their soapboxes on their own website; and why not, the no-frills design principle is evident in their otherwise-than-gravity-powered cars, too:

A couple of concepts:

A news release from QinetiQ, ca.2004:

A polystyrene soapbox?

Unisys & Visteon soapboxes:

In the US, apparently there's something called "Extreme gravity racing", but it's all very vague on their website:
