Williams FW36 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Wow, that's a really big update, the sidepods and whole rear bodywork of the car are different (plus floor plus the stuff I missed). In return for a slightly bigger undercut (not narrower but less shallow I think), the rear of the car isn't as tight anymore and I'd say the cooling openings grew a little overall. Let's hope they didn't sacrifice speed for even more reliability^^
Btw: Is any website offering bets on things other than who wins the championships? Williams might really have a shot at being a top-three constructor this year...

Anyone else notice the bulborous lower cockpit sides in 2 pics? One by stefan and the other by Sevach?

Yet they are not present any all the other pics. Surely not a new cockpit/safety cell?

Those are just mounting points for sensors they carried on track. You can see that here:

Thanks. I feel stupid... I saw the array on the drivers right but missed it on his left and because of this assumed no connection. Sorry all.

Very excited to see the consistency of this car! Very good compared and inline with the mclarens run. But it is just testing I guess.

Good look at the sidepod blades, new (or is it just hotter races?) engine cover.

Here are two high resolution shots of one of the images in Blizz's post. They show in great detail the vanes around the mirror mounts, the sidepod shoulder wing and cooling louvres (open in new tab for full resolution).

I believe the sidepod shoulder wings are only used in conjunction with the new sidepod and cooling package as mentioned in this F1 Technical development article.

First time I've noted the vents behind the driver's head. What component is there that urgently needs to get rid of some heat?

They are suppoused to help attach the air to the sidepods surface.

Here are two further photos of the sidepod shoulder blades (right click and open new tab for big). I'd like to see a close-up of them from a lower angle if possible.
