Red Bull RB10 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Just on the TV coverage it looks like there's a little hole on the ramp on the nose - could it really be an internal camera with a hole for it to look through? :wtf:

I still suspect that the camera will go into the tip of the nose here. Its big enough to fit the camera and they would not want to add the camera to the nose until the very last minute so they dont give the other teams time to protest it.

Problem is the camera cannot be that far forward. There's a specific area of the car that they need to be placed in.

The RB10 seems to have a very different airbox, radiators, intercoller and exhausts compared to the other Renault powered cars. Need more pics...

Thanks. I never knew.

I think the little hole in the nose is it. As seen in green circle. But don't they need two cameras and therefore two little holes?

This camera thing is not going to be a big performance differentiator, but if the FIA chooses to not enforce their basic pictures of required camera mount positions then they will look silly.

Are they using an air/water intercooler? that intercooler is placed very far from the sidepods air duct. And where are the exhausts? under the silver schielding, maybe.

Do the cameras have to be placed parallel to each other?

Could Red Bull have potentially placed their second one facing backwards at another point? like Ferrari have one facing backwards on the nose.

I made this post in the race thread but thought you guys might be interested:

Seeing the Red Bull and reading the rules, it seems the graphic ought to look more like this:

Image

Although having re-read them, I don't see how it can comply with this:

20.3.1 All cars must be equipped with five positions in which cameras or camera housings can be fitted. Referring to Drawing 6, all cars must carry (i) a camera in position 4 and (ii) a camera or camera housing in positions 2 (both sides), 3 and either 1 or 5.

Both sides. So shouldn't it have two holes?

No, in the same way as teams aren't forced to run with camera pods on both sides of the engine cover

In the case of the engine cover, it only says they need a camera in position 3. It doesn't state both sides like it does for position 2.

"Camera or camera housing" on both sides. Whether it's an actual camera or a dummy housing would be agreed upon later.

Also:
20.3.4 Any camera or camera housing fitted in the left hand position 2 shown in Drawing 6 must be mounted in order that its major axis where passing through the centre of the camera lens (or corresponding position for a camera housing) does not intersect any part of the car lying forward of the camera or camera housing
So only the left hand one needs an unobstructed view forward, exactly as they have done.

I think the camera is there but is under the vanity panel.
It's some loophole of that nature i suppose.
For Sure!!

I think there are two camera pods in there. I'd be willing to bet that there are two standard FOM camera pods in there under that vanity panel they have over the pods. Remember they only have one camera actually placed on the nose at one time generally. I guess they could simply change the vanity panel to one with the hole on the other side.

Very smart, looks like we have a nose that's something like this in cross section:

Image

Red = Camera pod.
Green = Nose.
Yellow = Vanity Panel.
