New here, designing (and need help with) my own f1 car.

Post

Hello, I am new. I am 13 years old but I am really interested in aerodynamics. I am trying to design my own F1 car using solid edge v18 and so far I have done the nose, but not the front wing, the front part of the chassis and a tiny bit of the roll structure. I am using a CFD program called Flowizard, which is really easy to use but not that good, and I am trying to learn how to use a proper program. However I have a problem, in order to design the rear end of the car properly, I need to know the dimensions of the internal components like the radiator, engine and gearbox. I would also like to know the average area for the sidepod inlet (I also think I will need to know the average outlet area e.g. the gills and chimneys, but not yet).

On another note, I have had quite a few aerodynamic ideas, which I have slowly had to cross of my list, as I find they are illegal. My latest, which I think is legal (regarding the f1 rules) involves ground effect. Please bear in mind that I am rubbish at explaining things.

I know about the flat floor rule and the step plane. What if you used this as the ground part of ground effect. You would have an inlet around the splitter, sidepod area. The flow underneath would be completely closed off. Please look at the diagram

The obvious disadvantages would be increased drag by lifting the driver up and a higher c of g.

First of all I want to welcome you to the forum :D

For some reason my browser can´t display the page, can you check what´s wrong? I can´t understand what do you mean without seeing a sketch

If i got it right you want to raplace the ground with the floor... if you do this the wing will be sucked to the floor not the car to the ground :?
In groud effect there must be a wing above the GROUND othervise it
doesn´t work

Hmm I guess thats similar to Ferraris double floor idea a while back.

It was an idea I often pondered on, until I found out Ferrari did it, unsuccessfully. lol.

edit - thinking about it, im guessing it would take up abit of room in the already cramped pods, and would drive the diffuser??

that is ofc if u mean basically a set of tunnels running ontop of the flat bottom ???

and ducts in the floor, well how would that effect the overall floor perf ?? i know Ferrari ran with naca ducts in their front diffuser for the LMP prototypes. For brake cooling i beleive.
