FIA are scrapping the rule.

This vindicates RB position apparently.

Hmm, not so sure, but might be... Horner also admitted in Autosport that fIA accept that the sensors are faulty and allowed them to race relying on their own data in Mal. Pitpass have also questioned is this an April fool joke or common sense starts to prevail in F1.Juzh wrote:1. april.dxpetrov wrote:FIA are scrapping the rule.

Uhh dude, Pitpass is known for their April fools jokes read the second page. They also have an April fools joke about the live timing app.dxpetrov wrote:Hmm, not so sure, but might be... Prolly more April fools - if anything IMO RBR would bring Cosworth in to work with Renault to optimse their PU - this would be far more cost effective and efficient at getting RBR a competitive PU.Chuckjr wrote:Looks like RB may indeed look to rebadge the Cosworth in June. How incredible is it that Cosworth had waiting in the "wings" an F1 PU to be claimed. What incredible fortune for RB. Incredible if this is true.

Can anyone confirm if this is real? I'll delete the post if it's erroneous.

This probably is a April Fool attempt - but where there's smoke....the possibility is realistic and quite fascinating.Red Bull has extended its engine supply deal with Renault Sport for another five years and is set to work hand-in-hand with the manufacturer on the new 1.6-litre V6 turbo engine for 2014.

Good to see the journos having a sense of humor on April 1st, I love this part;Chuckjr wrote:Looks like RB may indeed look to rebadge the Cosworth in June. I'm pretty sure this was a April 1st stuff.Cam wrote:Is it such a big leap though? Red Bull started out with a Cosworth if I can recall. This fits with exactly the philosophy Red Bull have run for some time - issue with Cosworth engine, change supplier, issue with Ferrari engine, change supplier, issue with alternator, change supplier. Red Bull dumped MM mid way through the year like it was nothing.
Why would Cosworth pursue the development of an F1 engine when it had no customers? Or did it have one all along - including some financial backing? You can just imagine DM's approach "Horner and Newey want these specs - you deliver, I pay".
Business wise, the concept has merit too. Red Bull have race teams all over the world in different categories - all of which would benefit from the resources of an in-house engine development department.
Interestingly, Red Bull only signed to a 5 year agreement with Renault - of which that was mentioned back in mid 2011. So there's actually not that long to go on any engine deal anyway. A performance clause would assist any contract issues.

I stand corrected. Thanks.irang wrote:Anyway, regarding the part in bold they stuck to Magneti Marelli until the end of 2012 season (After Webber's DNF in Austin press made a big deal out of it before Brazil race.Cam wrote: Red Bull dumped MM mid way through the year like it was nothing.
You're absolutely right. My poor judgement there. I just liked the general idea more than anything but nevertheless, dumb move on my part.djos wrote:Prolly more April fools - if anything IMO RBR would bring Cosworth in to work with Renault to optimse their PU - this would be far more cost effective and efficient at getting RBR a competitive PU.Chuckjr wrote:I posted this link in the RB team thread, but maybe it belongs here since it is car related--whatever the case, if true, IT will be an interesting development for RB come June.
