Pitstop(ing) in detail

hey all,

I'm not sure if this belongs in the technical forum - admin please move if it doesn't!

I need to find out what exactly happens during a pitstop.
I'm writing a strategy/sim management game for mobile phones, and while i have a laymans idea of what happens - i'd really like to know exactly what happens.

Could someone post a link to an existing article maybe?
i realise that its a large subject.

I have looked for articles discussing this - but haven't been able to find any.
