The only reason is to cheat? Really? wow...
The logistics of an operation in the United States when only 2 races are on the continent make little sense. You wouldn't put yourself at a seeming disadvantage unless there is something else going on. There's a reason most of the teams are based in England. Haas wanting a US base is because of the wind tunnel.

It's all about the eternal search for the unfair advantage.

Brazil is slightly beneficial to the US due to time change.

So, you have Spain-Monaco. Then Austria-Britain-Germany-Turkey. Then a month break. Then Belgium-Italy. Everything else is either Asia-Asia (which is comparably inconvenient from both the US and Europe) or jumping continents. And Germany-Turkey is a week, so nobody is going back to base there.

So there are 4 situations where a european base is clearly beneficial. Not what it used to be, and I suspect the calendar will get increasingly spread out as new circuits get pulled in.

The biggest argument (and it's a very big argument) for basing in England is that's where the F1 talent base is. Otherwise, we'd see teams like Mercedes in Germany. The US has a good talent base for racing, just not for F1. But that could change. Haas will do everything to keep the team in the US, I think. I think that's just how he's wired.

I certainly hope so. You know how the Italians are so crazy about Ferrari...I want that. It's not that I dislike Europe or anything, but I do have national pride. It has been a long time since I've been able to root for the home team, so to speak.

As I have argued elsewhere in this forum, his lack infrastructure, road racing expertise, and organization suggests to me a high probability of failure. I would have thought that he'd have the capacity to manufacture some sort of carbon fiber race car BEFORE deciding to enter F1. Of course, you are correct, but at this stage of the game, he needs to get a car ANY CAR, with any chassis engine combination to start a GP. Once he has honored that lofty obligation he can then work to shift operations State side.

i think a few decades the british home of motorsports Dogma was of relevance ..but with Sauber ,Toyota ,Toro Rosso,Peugeot,Citroen and associated companies the british has become more like an european base of Formula 1 .

If a multiple spread over the planet interlinked corporation can put together a well oiled Championship assault in formula 1 is still in question ....but even without all the communication possibilities of today Barnards idea came pretty close with Prost in 1990 at Ferrari I´d say and compannies like Daimler are very much used to global approaches .

so no drawback for a US base in my view there .Windshear is not a shabby tunnel as i understand ...so why not develop the aero there which is still a big part of the whole Thing .

the actual running of the car.. it does not really matter where the base is as the guys are on a constant trip anyways the Business is an international one ..and if you happen to have a few days off you will most likely have to take a plane anyways to make the trip home. It just will be different races which are easier in Terms of travelling .

This is not the deciding factor if this will be a success .

What I´m not sure about is :is Steiner the man to put all things into place? he left behind a struggling Jaguar Team which needed a fair bit of restructure till arriving at what RB and RBT are today...hinting at fundamental flaws in the Organisation when he was in Charge. But People learn and develop ?

I would have hired more current talent maybe and combined it with achievers of the past who made it work with less than others .

While I don't agree with the NA-NC location per se, I concur that this Italian is the oddest part of the entire thing,
a guy almost a write-off as Ken Anderson. He was TD on paper for Jaguar during a turbulent time when people came
and went like paychecks, but I wouldn't put that on my CV and how does he qualify for building a team from nothing?

I remember when Carl Haas hired drivers for his FORCE team 30 years ago, it ended with the only two F1 drivers that
had driven for him in the US, Patrick Tambay and an out of retirement Alan Jones, which was not an optimal solution.

Is that it, Steiner was the only F1 something that he knew?

Haas explained his decision to start Haas Formula during a 75-minute news conference Monday at a hotel near the future site of his F1 team – the campus of his Stewart-Haas Racing NASCAR team
Sorry for bringing this quote up again, as it was discussed earlier, but it has been nagging at me since I read it the first time. Now I know why.

Boeing!!!

I sure hope Haas doesn't plan to outsource all,of the bits and pieces, and put them all together to make an F1 race car. As Boeing learned so painfully, integration is crucial to making the whole package work. I think that is why his lack of everything physical and technical is so worrisome to me. I don't care what chassis, engine combination he chooses, the fact that he has declared his intention to race F1 and he is still building a shop...??? I wish him luck...lots of it!

I think he was very clear in the press conference that he wants his NASCAR and F1 programs on the same campus, and made a pretty compelling case as to why that makes sense for him. I think that is certainly his prerogative. NASCAR teams are a lot more technical and there is a lot more technology in NASCAR than people realize...fabrication of a competitive NASCAR sled is no cakewalk.

Definitely true, the standards the cars are fabricated to is rather extreme.

Compare to F1, it is cakewalk.

And you are basing this on first hand knowledge then? I'm going by what I have read from F1 personnel that have actually gotten involved in NASCAR, to a man they all say how impressed they are with the shops and the technology behind the scenes...

I'm basing this on Montoya's first hand knowledge.

Maybe they are impressed because they expect much less (perhaps something like a chop shop) :D .

Seriously though, I think it mostly down to budget, I don't expect NASCAR to be sustainable if it is as expensive as F1. In other words, it is much cheaper to be competitive in NASCAR.
