regarding the Lancia V6
Lancia invented the 'staggered cylinder'(single block V) engine (that VW & Audi seem to have reinvented and base the W16 on)
Lancia made this exclusively,'their' type of engine from 1920 as V4, even V8 and IIRC V6, all too early for this Google age
the last being the V4 Fulvia of WRC fame

Actually not a pair of them if you look even closer Because two conrods share one crank, the 912 engine is a V12 180°, so not a flat 12..

And the same goes for those Italian F1 engines, they were all 180 degree V12s and not Boxers, this is an outrage!









I hope we can still use "Flat 12" though, as they are still flat?

I agree with xpensive, these flat 12's are technically 180deg V-12's. The term "boxer" describes an engine with adjacent diametrically opposing cylinders whose pistons basically move in opposing directions. Similar to two boxers jabbing at each other. A true "boxer" engine has 180deg spacing between the crank pins of opposing cylinders. A flat 4 VW beetle engine is an example of a boxer.
