A shameless image thread for the enginephiles

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

BRM & 16 cylinders eh? Bloody marvellous as a technical oddity, but really not too practical..

Here is a another strange one from Blighty..

Seems none of the many X-configuration mills tried were successful in gaining service acceptance..

The Alfa Romeo 1.5 turbo V8, such a shame it didn't perform as well as it looked;

But, alas not successfully.. ..& it was dumped, rightly recognised as a dog - even by its manufacturer..

Rolls-Royce had it cancelled, with other engines, so that that it could concentrate on Merlin and Griffon development and production.

The Manchester was too big an aircraft for twins of 1800-2000hp. The Vulture ran relatively trouble free in thr Tornado prototype.

What's with the presence of oil on the two lower exhausts?

Ilmor and Bishop Innovations cooperated on the development of a V10 F1 sleeve valve project in 2006:

Edit: There's a thread somewhere ... that included an engineer that worked on the project.

This thread was started to show photos of interesting engines. So, at the request of the OP, please try to steer this back to photos of interesting engines rather than a free-for-all discussion of engine technologies.

p.s. I've just renamed this to reflect that it's intended to be an engine photo gallery.

Thanx moderator, another option for the OT brigade is of course to form their own thread rather than polluting other's.
