A shameless image thread for the enginephiles

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

No, the Weslake V12 was almost 20 years earlier, this was built by Cosworth, but images are scarce.

Seems like a early 90's engine. Could be a McLaren (test)thing after their tests with a (I believe) Lambo V12?

That is the Neotech V12;

Another promising engine was designed in Austria in 1990. The Neotech V12 was however never used in any GP car. The 70 degree V12 design was drawing some interest from several GP teams but ultimately it never reached Formula One. It was tested in the back of a Brun Porsche 962 in 1990 but quickly disappeared from the scene.

Those almost look like superchargers, must be casing around the turbines. Either way that's pretty wild.

DKW SS/UL Split Piston supercharged two stroke. A 5 piston, twin cylinder....
Image
"For larger capacity classes a twin cylinder version of the UL was developed, and these motors were available in 350, 500, 600 and 700cc displacements, with the three latter capacities (some with multiple Ladepumpe pistons) reserved for sidecar racing. Unlike the ULe and ULd 250, the Ladepumpe was once again moved to the 180 degree position and driven off the main crankshaft with a pair of conrods. Thus these “twins” had five pistons: four 39.5mm items, plus the 100mm supercharging piston, all held together around a common crankshaft by six conrods. The cylinder block had the appearance of a square-four, and were distinguished from the 250s by their finned water jackets and the 180 degree placement of their Ladepumpe cylinders. A SS 350, which was virtually identical to the works UL machines, was offered to the public and sold in limited numbers." - http://www.odd-bike.com/2014/02/dkw-sup ... e-fed.html

Great read. I really liked this one:

It's #6. Opposed cylinders and a supercharger.
