 cool ( if what they claim is true offcourse)

Just did a net search - The Nevis engine is described as a 2 stroke design based on the Bertone cycle - I've long "carried a torch" for the 2 stroke - you may remember the thread on Orbital's 2 stroke air/fuel injection - here is a link with engine illustrations on the Bertone cycle and a picture of a Nevis test mule-engine - a brief technical description and blog commentary.

Thanks Downforce for the link - very conplete technical review. The control mechinism for intake/exhaust on future versions of the engine are intriguing - a desmo 2 stroke!

Blimey that looks pretty damn complicated

The specific power op is close to a rotary wankel engine..but perhaps the low emission levels ll favour this one

The major problem of the wankel, the seals, is fixed here-that´s what they say anyway

I think the future of the concept is quite promising, Ok it is a litle bit complicated but the level of eficiency is very good
think, it has more power than the rx8, from smaller engine and with less fuel and co2 emissions

Well we're looking at an unoptimised testversion and predictions from simulations so far. It could get interesting, but someone will probably have to take some risk to make this commercially viable (assuming it's possible).
It's cool stuff regardless though :).

just going to be so hard to break the mould of ICE....

is so well established now that it's so difficult to integrate change and what a drastic change something like that would be...

looks a very interesting concept though

Not that I care about co2 emission, really but it's good if this engine can be quite a step forward. However the wankel engine was a revolution but never really took off. Hopefully for the designer this has less naggles (niggles?).

Reading the link Downforce posted - just about every problem is covered. low emision controls - seal technology well developed - it may look like a mechanic's nightmare - but it's not - just piston, seals, intake exhaust valving - it all hinges on a crankshaft - that at first glace - looks like toolmaker's worst nightmare - but how many toolmakers are around - we have economical production for such complex profiled parts - the CNC machine.

The main problem is the adoption of new technology - often slow - sometimes meets oposition and the problem of consumer adoption.

Still - I really do enjoy innovation and crreativty - adds a bright element to this - increasingly conformist - life we lead

The oposition of consumer adoption will go away if some car maker puts this in a car that has more power and that spends less amounts of fuel that others...
and if the efficiency is proven, maybe governments can stimulate the manufacturing by reducing taxes to the companies who biulds them

Now think about this: Isn´t it stupid to create a machine for pushing, that moves 4 times to push just one?

PS: I love 4 stroke engines beside it is a very stupid design
