All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

I think the boost requirements that i have are lower than what you have and i also take into account going higher into the rev range where lower compressor boost is required. I posted a graph here once. I will try and bring it up.
Regardless of the figures, the crux of my point is that ferrari and Renault have the scope to catch up, and that the mercedes team don't necessarily have to be more efficient with the ICE side of things to realize their increase in power as they aren't maximising the available energy from MGUH.
140hp seems small, and your 100hp to drive the compressor is too high as well.

anyhow here is the graph, i guess 180hp to 200hp is where it's at, i haven't looked at it in a year, not sure where 240 came from? :mrgreen: , but yea you get what i'm saying.

with my example ~200hp, (160kW).
120kW would go to the KERS and 40kW to storage. If the storage is full, then the wastegates will have to be opened.
This assumes all available power is harvested.

The Merc engine has a log style exhaust, which in turn is a variable length exhaust

Does Merc have a variable length tuned intake system to compensate/compliment the exhaust system

a couple of systems come to mind

I'm pretty sure that isn't allowed in the regulations until 2015. I would expect intake runners that expand/contract axially for the variable systems.

According to EVO atleast, the R18 has 573 HP from the ICE (from a 24g/s fuel limit?). Assuming that is accurate, a simple extrapolation to 27.78 g/s is 660 HP. With that in mind, the F1 PU could be a combine 800 HP. The figure for the R18 seems like it's too high though.

The Audi R18 is a diesel car, so the fuel flow can not be compared directly to the 100kg/h for the petrol F1 engine as the heat content and efficiency numbers differ. According to this pdf( http://www.fia.com/sites/default/files/ ... 042014.pdf ), the 2MJ class for diesel can use 80,2kg/h, the 2MJ petrol class 94,3kg/h.

The fuel for Le Mans is also supplied by the organisers and must be available for sale!
Dear FIA, if you read this, please pm me for a redesign of the Technical Regulations to avoid finger nose shapes for 2016! :-)

That is pretty much in line with the upper limit output Ferrari's former PU head stated. He mentioned the ICE producing 600 - 650bhp.

660 Hp from the ICE would indicate an efficiency of almost 40%, something I doubt very much?

No it wouldn't.

As we covered earlier in the thread, 40% efficiency could be as high as 770 Hp, depending on the exact energy content of the fuel.
