If you read the rumours, it isn't likely they use a color in the car, at least in the reveal. With no sponsor (as Boullier recently said) I bet for White and black livery.

the only problem i'd see Mclaren running into is if it were to resemble too much like Marlboro.
However, Lotus doesn't seem to run into any trouble with their John Player Special livery.......

And now they're imposing this 'mount fuji' effect in the classic retro colour scheme i'm having a strong hunch that
they did that on purpose just to have a easy way to re-use that legendary livery

Is it possible, through a devious plot - to indirectly get Marlboro sponsorship?

As in:
Honda get's Marlboro sponsorship money,
then Honda sends that money to Mclaren in the form of 'Sponsorship'.

Marlboro tells Honda to make Mclaren wear that classic Marlboro livery.
Honda tells Mclaren to wear that classic Marlboro Livery
Mclaren wears that classic Marlboro livery.

Mclaren gets the Marlboro money, through a Honda transfer.
If the FIA gets annoying about how it resembles Marlboro,
they'll state they arent sponsored like Ferrari by Philip Morris
but that it is a livery of Mclaren-Honda, and it is an artistic impression
of Honda's imagery of mount Fuji with a retro-vibe of a classic Mclaren F1 livery.

What makes you think that? They did it the last time McLaren had this livery (both Ferrari and McLaren were sponsored by Marlboro in 94 for example). Marlboro doesn't care about teams, it cares about the size of the billboards it gets.

The real question is whether the FIA will let McLaren use such a livery, given that cigarette advertising is banned.

Simple those were the days when Tabacco Advertising was legal. Nowdays its illegal plus the Advertising that you get its half of that with the name written on the rear wing.
Other reason Ferrari haves a strong relationship with Philips Morris. Arrivabene was in charge with marlboro before gettin to Ferrari TP.
Mclaren il going to be Orange at testing and if no sponsor shows big money they will be white and Orange since Honda is the main partner of the team.
