Senna, Monaco 1991. The airbox. As i assume, it is. Did it race pointed backwards like this? if so, why?

AFAIK it was only placed so during heating up the engine.

if the engine is actually running at this point, then i assume its done to keep the intake noise away from the driver and engineers. only a hunch though.

The engine seems to be stopped. Does anyone know if they get it started in that position?

It seems more a service position, to work on some hidden area or facilitate car assembly.

Possibly to be able to reach the electronics systems else covered by the airbox.

It also looks like a simple solution to prevent small errors in making the car race-ready. Putting the airbox on backwards makes it clear attention is needed here.

& on topic, if the Honda mill required a spray of starter fluid in the intake to kick into life,
then maybe Senna didn't like the overspray/fumes all over him - when sitting in the car?
