Mercedes AMG F1 W06

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Are there any other updates on the car? Bar these strange looking winglets for the camera mounts. They are clearly getting creative and just using them as a reason to have more flow conditioners on the car.

Maybe if the FIA gave them some smaller, easier to mount cameras (THAT ARE HD OH MY GOD) it would all be a lot simpler. Let the teams mount them wherever they want as long as they are facing forwards and are not looking at the floor/back of the tyres.

Thanks. I saw the tapered underside, but the old one had that as well, figured it was just the lighting. Not much of an update, but the devil is in the details.

That picture of Barcelona 1 is the W05. That's the old A-arm and you cannot see the track rod.

I edited the post. It is the new car now only.

By the way AMuS has published an article featuring all the changes:

It looks like Mercedes have modified the sidepod turning vanes so that the outer main one now drops down right to the floor rather than turning in about 50mm from the floor and joining the short one.

Odd they dropped the turning vane down to the floor again, that's how the W05 initially had it.

So far the updates look like less is more.

My god if you go to these articles: http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/form ... 89165.html

Mercedes basically have an entire new car, it's just small refinements everywhere. They apparently have a very minor modification to the FW - can anyone spot? But a radical new FW for Australia. Their nose is new, clearly gaining more front downforce, which suggests they have a lot of rear downforce. They then have new under nose turning vanes, the batwing is slightly modified and a new bulb section under nose just before turning vanes.

I think they have modifed their suspension (at least this was reported) - but maybe they're not using that yet?

The side pod turning vanes have been modified and the entire sidepods and engine cover have been shrunk a little. The rear wing is new, and how they hold the monkey seat, then there are details around the diffusor that are new.

Apparently tomorrow they come with new front and rear brakeducts. Wow...

Anyone think they're using the RW single mounting pylon like a F-duct / double DRS?

I think this picture is beautiful - it looks like such a mean machine, a beast.. http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/bild ... ow_item=18

It's actually amazing how much better looking their nose is with that little bulb underneath it, makes a lot of difference to the appearance I think.

The issue is also that it isn't written in the regulations - it looks to be a Technical Directive.

I think Mercedes have a lot of updates coming through. I even believe that old versions of certain parts could be seen as an update on the car for this season. The attention to detail is mindblowing.
