Seriously, is it the V6 thermal engine the cause of that ? It is especially in the downshift that burping noise can be heard. You also need heard the engine when the car moves away, the sound is really especially and little bit sugglish.
Ferrari too. Both seem to shut down cylinders at partial throttle.AlainProst wrote:Anybody know why the Honda PU has a lawnmower sound ???![]()
these V6 turbo hybrids will never sound nice but as they go I like the sound of the ferrari most. Its the only car where you hear the actual sound of an engine. I have now idea why the Honda sounds so damn bad. Like its misfiring badly on entry into corners and on half throttle.timbo wrote:Ferrari too. Remember this?Thefuelman wrote:I have now idea why the Honda sounds so damn bad. Like its misfiring badly on entry into corners and on half throttle.
watch the video from 1:34. This is what i'm on about. I can't help but think if you have a race car that is this slow and sounds like an old misfiring Honda Civic isn't it best to keep the promotional films to a bare minimum?

The transfer of energy as time flows is called power... Read the article... power is the word used her and that does indeed make sense. Energy itself is nothing without power. all the sorts of things that transfer energy must be rated with time as a factor.. (How you derive the ampacity of your cables, your cooling system and such).Juzh wrote:MGU-H transfers recovered energy in KJ (not kw), and that energy is unlimited. Doubtful anyone actually recovers enough to reach K 160 bhp limit. ~90kw was a number thrown around some time ago.PlatinumZealot wrote:Do you mean to charge the battery and propel the car at the same time? Example MGUH out put 200hp to the K.. 160 to propel the car and 40hp to charge the battery? In theory it is possible. I'm not really sure of the situation where you would have excess boost under maximum acceleration though.. but it should be possible.
This.gruntguru wrote: Highly unlikely anyone has more than 120 kW from the MGUH. I did some calculations earlier in the 1.6 thread - can't remember exactly but it was well under 120 kW. The only way would be much higher boost and higher compressor and turbine efficiencies. (I assumed 80%)
Oh. Let me clarify, not 50% power.. Think of it as 50% stress on the ERS systems...I think that should explain the slow acceleration and braking. Still, Mclaren are in a very tough fly away series. I hope to see how the utilize the race laps. I fully expect them to be lapped by lap 15... possibly being lapped three times over the race. haha.. but I hope that they get enough data to go a better step in Malaysia.Thefuelman wrote:
Thats actually quite funny. To be honest i dont expect to see Alonso any time soon. That cars performance in qualyfying must be playing havoc with his concussion.![]()
On a serious note if the Mannor F1 team had been running there is the very real possibility they may have beaten Mclaren. They were doing 1:34s in a dampis qualyfying session last year. Its as bad as it gets. Its safe to say the car isnt running at 50% power output or I doubt it would be hitting 300 clicks on the mainstraight.
Alonso can't magically get 2 second out of a car thats fundamentally flawed and ridiculous. When the car is this handicapped you could put Max Chilton in and be hard pused to notice any major performance difference.
McLaren is better off making their own engines. If this Honda deal doesn't work out, who else can they partner with?jason.parker.86 wrote:If I am honest I think McLaren should have partnered with BMW.
After what Red Bull has said about Renault this weekend It looks very much like they will be going their own way with powertrains. At this rate I forsee this McLaren Honda partnership ending up like the McLaren Peugeot relationship of 1994. Maybe Bringing McLaren and Renault together would yeild better results?crbassassin wrote:McLaren is better off making their own engines. I do not believe this 30%. In the fight with the FI you could clearly see full power on the two DRS straights. I think they have their biggest problems with MGU-H, because Button was much slower on the short straights between the corners.CjC wrote:After been peeved off all weekend about the car, engine an relative pace, I'm pleased JB finished the race!
Sky sports were reporting that the honda is running on 30% power, IF that's true then there is a lot of ceiling space for the engine to move into and also the chassis and aero improvements. Let's see how the season pans out- can't wIt to see an all out quali lap
Frankly this is nonsense. If companies like Honda and Renault are struggling with all their life times of know how and resources how on earth do you expect a comparatively tiny outfit like McLaren to do better?crbassassin wrote:McLaren is better off making their own engines.
