That, to me, is good marketing. Mclaren fans are what gives their brand value - even if you think their opinions 'suck'

Exactly, its called heritage. Another seemingly random variant of monochromatic grey or black isnt heritage, its ignoring fans, its floundering.

Its typical of the suffocating, sterile corporate nature that is McLarens problem, they arent a racing team, they are a racing car manufacturing company.

To me it makes absolutely no sense. Everybody would like. Almost all the fans were hoping for white/red livery. It would be in the news of dozen countries. So: why, the hell not?

The ART GP2 team is driving with this new livery too from this weekend on. I think it should have been the other way around with McLaren adopting the ART livery though..

It does but I echo the previous comment that the red swoosh kinda ruins it - it looks like something you'd put on a 2012 car to cover the bump.

Comparison of old vs new livery:

anyway, i thought we were going to see shades of greay. this is like, almost pitch black.
looks weird btw, both the Mobil1 AND ESSO logo so close to eachother on the car.

It would give no brand value whatsoever, it would only generate hype towards heritage, which is hardly effective at all(take a look at Lotus).

It's just lifting on the success of someone else rather than generating your own identity. And when you are like McLaren, that is expanding it's field, an own identity is exactly what you'd want to create.

I'd be more like Alan Rickman:

Someone else? Surely not? Living on past glories, perhaps, but they're your own past glories.

I'd suggest there's nothing wrong with highlighting the heritage of a brand; yes, anything looks bad on a slow car, but there's no doubt it would please a vocal majority of the fan base + generate attention for the car.

2015 will probably known as the year with ugly/disappointing liveries

Manor, McLaren, Sauber, Red Bull are all a mess of a presentation

anything looks bad on a slow car?
Have you seen the Minardi liveries from early 90's

Great start into another lovely Day. Reading this Thread made me smile. Some People in here take it WAY to seriously or are just delusional. =D>
I fully understand when People don't like the New Livery (can't argue with personal Taste) but some Comments are just soo overboard....
Like i said a few Pages ago i like it and when we see the First real Pictures of the fully assembled Car and FP1 tomorrow i am sure it will be even better. Cheers.

Fair point- I suppose expectations have their part to play.
