Manor, McLaren, Sauber, Red Bull are all a mess of a presentation

anything looks bad on a slow car?
Have you seen the Minardi liveries from early 90's
Actually, Sauber has a great livery this year

That's the characteristics of their Rocket Red. Depending on the Light and Camera Angle it can be anywhere from Red to Orange to even pinkish. It's a great Color.

Same Picture, different Angle.

ART GP2 also now sports this new Mclaren livery

Hmm, not what I was hoping for but I have to say I like the new livery a lot more than the old one!

Wow! Somehow they managed to have an even worse livery than before...

It really looks terrible, especially near the front wheels, looks like it has 2 noses.

Terrible effort really. Even more, If now after 50 years they feel the need to establish a brand identity, clearly they have been doing something wrong...

I have to agree. The colors aren't bad, in fact, the colors are quite good. The double nose look is pretty bad though.

It takes a bit of time for the brain to adjust itself to not see the illusion of the double nose anymore. Give it a race weekend or 2 and you are not seeing it anymore.

I agree, if just they take that out...

It's not a matter of an illusion, it's a matter of just not looking attractive.

I expect to see a predatory livery trying to stealthily limp around like a wounded animal but I will be very happy to be wrong. I don't like the livery but I love the team!

Which is as you said caused by the illusion of it having 2 noses (or a serious bump atleast). That'll adjust itself in time.

Someone else? Surely not? Living on past glories, perhaps, but they're your own past glories.
Hardly
I'd suggest there's nothing wrong with highlighting the heritage of a brand; yes, anything looks bad on a slow car, but there's no doubt it would please a vocal majority of the fan base + generate attention for the car.
Everything is wrong with lifting on brand heritage if you are trying to create an identity for the whole McLaren group.

It doesn't help that mclaren partly wants to tear on that heritage. Until now they have not realmy shown to where they want their image move to, or even if it moves at all.

Don't get me wrong: I personally don't really have any nostalgic urges towards the 'iconic' red striped white livery. As far as mclaren go, they don't really have a livery that you could historically call "pure mclaren". They do have their crescent orange symbol, which is what defines mclaren, and which has been on the car a very long time now, but that's the only thing that makes mclaren "mclaren".

Frankly, I'd only understand a return to that specific livery of Marlboro would ever sponsor the team again. That's basically the only and sole reason why Mclaren ever ran that livery. In thay sense returning to that livery would be completely irrational branding, since mclaren does not want to be associated anymore with cigarettes.

Honda is in the same position really. Except for the company logo, they neither have a "Honda" livery.

They have their racing corporate colours though: white, red and black. Used in BTCC, Japanese Super GT, 60's Grand Prix cars, WTCC and probably many others.
