But at the end of the day HULK does finish his job right doesn't he? he is faster. isn't that enough. and what is the use in keeping a lighter kimi and being slow while a heavier HULK who would give seb a run for his money!!!!!
It's the disadvantage he has that counts. Any driver who does as good as an effort as Hulk in the same car, has a 0.4s advantage.

That's unfortunaly how it is, and I think it's the main reason why he is not able to get higher up. He's a great driver, but unfortunaly weights too much. it's the same reason why only small people are top horse jockeys.

I really enjoyed the race (I mean the parts I could watch which adds up to about 10 hours). My first time watching WEC of any kind. A big congratulations to Porsche for winning Le Mans for the 17th time. I am so happy for Nico Hulkenberg. Winning in his first Le Mans race. Man, that counts for something. A bit ironic that he races in F1, but his first big win comes in an endurance race and the most important one too. Also felt good to see Mark Webber on the podium.

Japanese manufacturers are just bad both in WEC and F1 this year. (Also in motoGP Honda is struggling a bit)

I enjoyed the several hours of Le Mans that I managed to watch. Good racing over several hours.

I think F1 needs to look at WEC and take some ideas from it - imagine how impressive the F1 version of the Porsche or Audi would be; truly the top of the motorsport tree. Those LMP1 cars are phenomenal beasts with serious downforce and serious grunt and still able to run multiple stints on the same tyres.

Does anyone know where to get laptimes for all laps set during the Le Mans race?
I'm curious to know how Webber of Hulkenberg did compared to their team mates...

I'm surprised by all the positive comments. The same is true for so many other forums, endless praise for the WEC and F1 should take notice. Which does not make much sense to me. There are two problems about the F1 currently, I hear again and again:
- Engine being too small, making a dull noise;
- Overtaking, DRS is fake and otherwise there isn't much of it.

So how come the WEC is praised? The winning cars drive with smaller engines who make a worse noise than the V6 turbo's in F1. We don't even have to talk about overtaking, because there is none in WEC. On track excitement is very limited. All the action is in the pits/live timing etc.

All Im getting from this is that F1 is universally hated currently and people seem to grab every opportunity and race series to point that out. F1 needs an image overhaul more than anything.

In all honesty, the sound in WEC is as dull or even duller. It simply is telling us engine noise is not everything.

Did you watch the race? The scenes in the pits?
It transpired genuine motorsports wherever you looked. No celebrity Show. No Glamour nonsense, No drama about the private life of Drivers, just whole Teams fighting against the adversities of running 24h at serious pace.
Qualifying time was 3:16:9, fastest lap in the race 3:17:4. Most of the time the fastest cars were running around 3:20. That is only 1,5% slower than Qualifying. Insane performance. Was really great to watch.
And big congrats to Porsche!!!
And also to Audi.
They achieved a huge improvement in pace compared to last year.
And now, please dear ACO don't try and start slowing down these impressive beasts that LMP1 cars have become!

In fact, your logic seems legit. But tbh I start to enjoy the car and generally evrything around the technology when I start to watch Formula One, I can't stop to watch this, and this category despite his issues stay the highest level of racing in the world.
The principal issues in Formula One (in my point of view) are the tyre and the pace of the car in race (so much tyre and fuel save).

In WEC, you have fast and strong tyres (4 or 5 runs on the same set), and in Le Mans you can see a things : the car in race can approach the qualifying time. As you said, that's different kind of racing but you can see nice one vs one battle tbh. About the engine, the quality of the regulation is the liberty unlike the Formula One and the Sound of the LMP1 (except Audi) isn't awful, personally I can appreciate the noise of a turbocharged engine.
In Formula One, the time or the race pace increase gradually (overall 15 years), only at Le Mans the record get raped !

But, the principal difference between Le Mans and the F1 Races is the vibes, feeling, atmosphere. I'm French, I live at ~2h30 of the racetrack and there are so much different nationality, we share some barbecue and cocktail with the English, some people come with there personnal supercar (a friend send me some pics of 918..), therefore the atmosphere is a way more cool than the "high standing" F1 races.
To finish, the WEC Championship seems attractive for the big brand who comes, in Formula One who come those last year (appart Honda) ?

Thanks for that, I missed that one. But I'm sure you get the point I'm making. Anyways, I'm actually a big fan of WEC, its philosophy and attitude. I was just commenting on the general feelings towards WEC by the same people who burn down F1.

F1 vs LeMans?
A 1h30min 'sprint' race where drivers are coasting the cars to save fuel and tires, lapping far off the qualifying pace compared to a 24h endurance race where the drivers were pushing throughout the night, lapping closer to qualifying pace.
The pinnacle of motorsports, where innovation is punished and the cars are so similar even hardcore fans would have trouble telling them apart were it not for the different liveries, compared to a 'lesser' formula, where there are vast differences in design among the top competitors and innovation is encouraged.
The 'greatest races on earth', which you can't watch live unless you pay, compared to a 'less interesting race' where all major competitors provide live in-car streams and timing free.
A 'sport' full of mudslinging, backstabbing and thrash-talking between the teams, compared to a 'sport' where major competitors were praising each other on live broadcast.
Last but not least, an 'intense' and fast race where at a worryingly increasing rate I happen to fall asleep halfway through, compared to a 'slow' endurance race which kept me awake and interested for 24h..

Not a fair comparison, it really is apples and oranges. But as a fan of F1 since the 1990's, I have to admit I felt jealous watching this version of LeMans..
