- Engine being too small, making a dull noise;
- Overtaking, DRS is fake and otherwise there isn't much of it.
So how come the WEC is praised? The winning cars drive with smaller engines who make a worse noise than the V6 turbo's in F1. We don't even have to talk about overtaking, because there is none in WEC. On track excitement is very limited. All the action is in the pits/live timing etc.
All Im getting from this is that F1 is universally hated currently and people seem to grab every opportunity and race series to point that out. F1 needs an image overhaul more than anything.
In fact, your logic seems legit. But tbh I start to enjoy the car and generally evrything around the technology when I start to watch Formula One, I can't stop to watch this, and this category despite his issues stay the highest level of racing in the world.
The principal issues in Formula One (in my point of view) are the tyre and the pace of the car in race (so much tyre and fuel save).
In WEC, you have fast and strong tyres (4 or 5 runs on the same set), and in Le Mans you can see a things : the car in race can approach the qualifying time. As you said, that's different kind of racing but you can see nice one vs one battle tbh. About the engine, the quality of the regulation is the liberty unlike the Formula One and the Sound of the LMP1 (except Audi) isn't awful, personally I can appreciate the noise of a turbocharged engine.
In Formula One, the time or the race pace increase gradually (overall 15 years), only at Le Mans the record get raped, the car become more efficient but more faster and more attractive.
But, the principal difference between Le Mans and the F1 Races is the vibes, feeling, atmosphere. I'm French, I live at ~2h30 of the racetrack and there are so much different nationality, we share some barbecue and cocktail with the English, some people come with there personnal supercar (a friend send me some pics of 918..), therefore the atmosphere is a way more cool than the "high standing" F1 races.
To finish, the WEC Championship seems attractive for the big brand who comes, in Formula One who come those last year (appart Honda) ?
