A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.
Is there anyone that can tell me specifically how suspension A-arms were formed at the ends, usually inboard, where the tubes taper to the point where the rod ends are installed? Also, how were the corner gussets installed as well, as there don't appear to be obviously visible welds there. Failing miserably at attaching an image....lol But I'm thinking as an example the suspension on the McLaren Mp4/6.
Probably similar to the fabrication techniques used for motogp consisting of a mix of pressed metal parts (low volume tooling), machined parts, extrusions and tubes. Any combination of those with jigs of a low volume construction for repeat manufacture, tig is the preferred method of welding.
