I'm very surprised they showcase it, even if it's an older Spec.

So we can assume they´re developing a new version wich is completely different. Hopefully at second chance...
Almost definitely. They had two completely different configurations before homologation for 2015.

In the meantime, we can all dream of a return to proper F1 engines like the V10. [-o< We saw/heard the best F1 will ever offer back 10 years ago. So sad to know that will never be the same again. :( Oh well, at least we have youtube.

They are far behind in everything, for example the tires. Even if they start building a new concept (or rather getting it right with the RedBull concept) with PP they are still lacking the experience of four years now. I would say that without taking money in their hands and buying Merc people back it will not work. In my point of view buying PP was not a good choice, they should have bought 10 people from different departments. We saw it over the years with RedBull: The aero was always really good, but the car was sometimes not in the top 3. They started to be constantly on the top, once they got the mechanical grip and the cooling right.

My point was that McLaren haven't lost their path, they started a new one. You think RBR Chassis got to where it is now on Day one? It took them 5 years before their first victory, 3 if you count from the first Newey designed RBR.
So if McLaren thinks that PP is the new Newey, he has 3 years. As PP arrived in September and many of the design decisions are already taken, 2016 will be the first PP penned McLaren.

They have brought in several people, 10 sounds possible.

Newey aimed for the rule change. What is McLaren aiming for? Can McLaren afford to aim for anything?

Newey designed whole cars for nearly 20 years until he started at RedBull. PP is still an Aero guy. I do not think, that he can be seen as the new Newey...

The question is, if this a number above the usual fluctuations.

From my understanding there are two versions of one general configuration in works right now for 2016. It's almost as if the winter testing stage is just about over for Honda.

I hope I'm not hijacking the thread, but here is a video of old engine sounds:

I still prefer the sound of 12 cylinders over 10. The harmonics of a V-10 just sound strange to me. The best sounding F1 engine IMO of all time was the flat 12 from Ferrari and Alfa. Pure symphony that could that make your eardrums bleed.

Mclaren must have some updates here....

Fernando Alonso; from Suzuka we expect points and close to Q3

Matt Morris; by Suzuka we expect to have a more competitive package

Well I think McLaren Aimed a little high for this year....You'd have to ask PP what he's aiming for. I presume a better Chassis and steady improvement. There are new rules in 2017?

It's hard to compare a known quantity like Newey to a fairly NEW person like PP. I think McLaren spared little expense in trying to get PP and RedBull fought hard to retain him. So that to me says he's very good. How good ? I don't have access to any of the people that have insight into that. Nor do I have any insight into who the people are that are better than PP or than can help him. Nor do I know why McLaren targeted PP.

Yeah, I have no idea about the last point. I do know that PP brought in some of his own people. Not sure how many.

I'm done talking about this BTW. I will no longer respond on this subject. My point was and I'm sorry if it got lost in all this ....Lets say that PP isn't as good as Newey, not hard as few people are. If it took Newey 3 years + for his first win, if you look at those first 2 seasons there were a ton of DNFs, should we not wait till PP has gone through a full cycle before throwing stones? I think we need to wait till next year at this time to reassess.
